Louisiana Athletics Tops Sun Belt Conference in Community Service Hours

This marks the third-consecutive year UL has led the league
LAFAYETTE, La. – Louisiana Athletics won the Sun Belt Student Athlete Advisory Committee Community Service Initiative for the third-consecutive year with 162 points for the 2022-23 academic year, the league office announced Monday.

Point totals were awarded at the end of each month based on community service hours, funds raised and any other projects on the HelperHelper platform. Georgia Southern placed second with 132 points as Troy (114), Old Dominion (113) and James Madison (111) rounded out the top five.

In total, Louisiana student-athletes totaled 14,364 hours of community service throughout the year with an estimated economic impact of $409,962.

Leading the charge was women's track and field, who ranked ninth nationally among all track and cross country Division I teams.

One of the department's core values is service and the Ragin' Cajuns have continued to increase their involvement in the community behind the Geaux Lead program. The program is committed to inspiring, engaging and advancing student-athletes' personal growth outside of athletic pursuits.

The program has been an advocate for community service by placing student-athletes from all sports with organizations throughout Acadiana.

The award will be officially handed out at the Sun Belt Honors Banquet during the 2023 Fall Meetings.
