Cajuns Close Regular Season with LA Tech Midweek, ULM Series

5/2/2023 10:22:00 PM | Softball

Begins two-week stretch in the state’s borders which includes next week’s SBC Tournament at Lamson Park

LAFAYETTE – The No. 24-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball team concludes regular season play this week with a four-day stretch of games starting with a midweek game at Louisiana Tech on Wednesday, May 3 that will be immediately followed by a Sun Belt Conference series with ULM from Thursday-Saturday, May 4-6 at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park.

Louisiana (39-13, 19-2 SBC) enters the series of games one win away from recording the program's 24th consecutive 40-win season and needing only one win in the ULM series to lock up the Sun Belt Conference regular season title.

Wednesday's matchup with the Lady Techsters (31-20) in Ruston is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. from Dr. Billy Bundrick Field.

The ULM series marks Senior Weekend for the Ragin' Cajuns at Lamson Park with game times set for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday (May 4) and Friday (May 5) then 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (May 6). Seniors Karly Heath, Kandra Lamb and Meghan Schorman will be honored in a pregame ceremony on Saturday.

Starting on Thursday against the Warhawks (24-28, 7-14 SBC), the Ragin' Cajuns seek to secure a fourth consecutive SBC regular season title and No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. Louisiana also seeks to extend its streak of consecutive Sun Belt series won through another season – the streak currently standing at 80 straight series won dating back to March 2013.

After the four-game, regular-season ending stretch is completed Louisiana remains at home at Lamson Park to start postseason play, hosting the Sun Belt Conference Tournament from Wednesday-Saturday, May 10-13. The official bracket and game times will be announced following the conclusion of regular season play on Saturday (May 6).

Louisiana heads into the month of May coming off a strong showing at the plate and in the circle in April. Mihyia Davis, a Top 25 finalist for the NFCA National Freshman of the Year Award, leads Louisiana with 18 multiple-hit games, 55 total hits, a .390 average and is one of only two players nationwide averaging over 1.0 steals per game.

Freshman Lauren Allred (.381, 10 HR, 40 RBI) leads a trio of Cajuns with 30-plus RBI with her team-high total of 40 RBI, senior Karly Heath (.348, 13 HR, 36 RBI) has matched her career-high with 13 home runs and Alexa Langeliers (.294, 11 HR, 38 RBI) is batting .385 since April 1.
