Louisiana Continues Strong Spring at Loen Johnson Invite

NATCHITOCHES, LA. – The fantastic outdoor season for the Louisiana track and field team continued on Saturday at the Leon Johnson Invitational in Natchitoches, Louisiana. The Cajuns won nine events and posted eight top 10 scores over the weekend.
Oliver Jack began the day with a second place finish in the men's hammer (50.08). Jacqueline Pokuaah followed with the first of her three podium finishes. The senior took home the gold in the long jump (6.26), tying the third longest jump in school history. Later in the day, in the triple jump she would post the second best score in school history with a jump of 12.86 meters for first place. She also took home second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 13.90 seconds.
Ta'La Spates also had a banner day, finishing in first in the the 100 meter dash (11.64) and second in the 200 (23.84). Her time in the 200 was the seventh fastest in school history.
The women continued to have a strong day in the field events. Jordan Brown claimed second in the pole vault (3.68) with Cameron Martinez right behind her (3.53). Taylor Davis (1.76) finished first in the high jump, just ahead of teammate Kennedy Washington who took third (1.67). Laila Guy closed the women's field events with a third place finish in the shot put (13.19). Marin Barras' throw of 50.90 meters put her fifth all-time in school history.
The men also had a strong field event with Nick Russell coming away victorious in the pole vault (5.01) ahead of second place teammate Trey Boucher (4.80). Jonah Harrison took home third in the hammer throw with a distance of 56.54 meters.
In the steeplechase both the men and women claimed the top two spots. The women saw the duo of Caroline Spalitta (12:19.03) and Skylar Delgado (12:32.53) stand atop the podium while the men had Mason Haley (10:15.32) and Justin Unger (10:21.73) go back-to-back.
Javed Jones finished in first in the men's 400 (46.67), while in the 200 event Trejun Jones finished in second by 0.01 seconds (21.01). Braden Scalisi posted the last win of the day in the men's 5k with a time of 15:59.65.
Across the country at the Bryan Clay invitational, Sophie Daigle broke her own school record in the 10k with a time of 34:19.08. Louden Boudreaux moved into fourth place all-time in the men's 5k with a time of 14:31.42 while Haley Salsbury moved into second in the record books in the women's 5k with her time of 17:19.29.
