LEADING OFF
>> The No. 24-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball team returns to the road for non-conference tournament play, traveling to Austin, Texas for the Longhorn Invitational hosted by No. 11 Texas from Friday-Sunday, March 3-5 at Red & Charline McCombs Field.

>> Louisiana has won five of its last six games, including no-hitting then-No. 25 UCF and defeating then-No. 14 LSU in Baton Rouge last week, to bounce back from a five-game losing streak at the TaxAct Clearwater Invitational that included four Top 10 opponents.

>> The team's five-game slate in Austin features single games with McNeese, Princeton and Tennessee State plus two matchups with the nationally ranked Longhorns.

>> The Longhorn Invitational marks the fourth consecutive season (2020-present) that Louisiana appears in Austin. The Ragin' Cajuns and Longhorns met at McCombs Field in midweek contests the previous three seasons, with the Ragin' Cajuns holding a 3-2 advantage.

>> The trip to Austin marks the first of three consecutive weekends on the road for the Ragin' Cajuns to start the month of March. Louisiana travels to Gainesville, Florida for the final non-conference tournament next weekend, then opens Sun Belt play in Hattiesburg, Mississippi (at Southern Miss) from March 17-19.

>> Texas will be the seventh (7th) ranked foe the Ragin' Cajuns line up against on the young season. Louisiana went 2-1 vs. ranked foes last week, run-ruling then-No. 25 UCF and claiming a win over then No. 14-LSU in Baton Rouge.

THIS 'N THAT
>> With the 5-4 win over LSU in Baton Rouge last Saturday (Feb. 25), the Ragin' Cajuns handed the Top 15-ranked Tigers their first and currently only loss of the season.

>> Louisiana claimed another SEC victory, and potential RPI building block, with Monday's 3-2 win over Ole Miss in eight innings at Lamson Park.

>> The Ragin' Cajuns pitching staff returned to form following the challenging TaxAct Clearwater Invitational, having limited foes to two runs or less in four of the last six games. The stretch was highlighted by no-hitters thrown by Meghan Schorman (No. 25 UCF) and Karly Heath (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi).

>> Since the TaxAct Clearwater Invitational, a span of six games, Louisiana's pitching staff has limited foes to a .166 average and yielded just 24 hits and 12 runs (10 earned) over the last 41 innings.

>> Sophomore Alexa Langeliers has powered Louisiana's last two weekday triumphs (UCF, Ole Miss) with a combined 10 RBI between the two contests. She produced a career-high seven RBI boosted by two home runs in the 8-0 win at UCF and accounted for all three RBI in the 3-2 win over Ole Miss.

>> The Clearwater-opening 4-1 win over Indiana marked Louisiana's 1,800th all-time win in program history - 5th most in NCAA D1 Softball history (joining UCLA, Arizona, Florida State, Texas A&M).

>> The win over Indiana in Clearwater gave Louisiana a 5-0 start under Gerry Glasco for the third consecutive season and fifth time in six years.

>> Louisiana's efforts on Mardi Gras day in Orlando marked the first time that UCF was run-ruled and no-hit since the 2022 Super Regional at No. 1 Oklahoma (May 27, 2022).

>> Nine (9) different players have posted at least one home run for the Ragin' Cajuns. Seven of them collected their home run during Opening Weekend at Lamson Park, then Stormy Kotzelnick and Jourdyn Campbell joined the group last weekend at the TaxAct Clearwater Invitational.

>> Louisiana batted .320 through the first 10 games (which included four Top 10 opponents) paced by four players with 25-plus plate appearances who were batting at or above the mark (Valdez, Heath, Hayden and Campbell). Leading the way was freshman Victoria Valdez who was hitting .370 with four doubles, a home run and a team-high tying eight (8) RBI.

>> Louisiana's pitching arsenal gained another arm in Clearwater with the debut of freshman lefthander Chloe Riassetto. She worked 6-1/3 innings highlighted by a stretch of four consecutive scoreless innings pitched in the team's tournament finale vs. No. 7 Florida State.

>> Meghan Schorman led the pitching staff with a 2.81 ERA and 17 total strikeouts during the TaxAct Clearwater Invitational. She pitched 6-2/3 innings of scoreless softball with seven strikeouts while scattering five hits before Indiana broke through with two outs in the seventh in the tournament opener, then on Saturday dazzled in relief vs. No. 4 Arkansas with four innings of two-hit, scoreless softball that featured six strikeouts.

DIAMOND NOTES
>> Louisiana was preseason ranked in three major national polls: No. 20 in D1Softball, No. 22 in Softball America and No. 24 in the ESPN/USA Softball poll. The Ragin' Cajuns were receiving votes in the USA Today/NFCA poll, third in line from No. 25.

>> Louisiana, the three-time defending regular season and tournament champions, was the unanimous selection as the favorite to win the 2023 Sun Belt Conference title in a vote of the league's 12 head coaches.

>> In the pitcher's circle, the Ragin' Cajuns returned all 47 victories posted in the 2022 season headlined by the trio of Sam Landry (20), Meghan Schorman (17) and Kandra Lamb (9) who combined for all but one of the triumphs.

>>  A year ago, Louisiana's pitching staff ranked Top 25 nationally in ERA (2.17), shutouts (16), strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.97) and was one of only three units in Division I Softball to amass 500-plus strikeouts (504).

UP NEXT FOR LOUISIANA
The Ragin' Cajuns make a quick stop back at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park on Wednesday, March 8 for a 6:00 p.m. midweek game with McNeese before traveling to Gainesville, Florida to participate in the Bubly Invitational hosted by No. 10 Florida from Friday-Sunday, March 10-12 at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.

It's a quick rematch with McNeese as the Cowgirls are Louisiana's first opponent at the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas. The Wednesday matchup at Lamson Park is the first of the annual home-and-home between the two programs who will meet again in Lake Charles on April 4.

The trip to Gainesville marks Louisiana's final non-conference tournament of the season. The Ragin' Cajuns are scheduled to face Rutgers and No. 10 Florida twice each over the first two days of the event before concluding action with an early Sunday morning game against Mercer.
