LAFAYETTE – In their first meet of the outdoor season, the Louisiana track and field team won 17 events on the second day of the Louisiana Classics. No win was bigger than the men's 4x100 which clocked in with the fastest outdoor time this spring in the entire NCAA at 40.07 seconds.
The women captured all three relays and had a strong showing in the field portion of the event. The team of Kennedy London, Ta'La Spates, Mari Robinson, and Kiana Foster won a close 4x100 relay to get things going. London took home some individual accolades as well, winning the 100-meter hurdle event.
The women's high jump was a clean sweep for the Cajuns. Kennedy Washington led the way with her jump of 1.61 meters on the first try. She just beat out teammate Taylor Davis who got there on her third attempt. Ivana Cecchetti rounded out the one-two-three order with a jump of 1.51 meters.
The momentum carried over into the pole vault where the Cajuns had two athletes tie for first with Cammi Martinez and Jordan Brown both jumping 3.27 meters on their first try. Maria Bienvenu also captured gold in the javelin, throwing 51.24 meters, nearly seven more than the next closest throw.
On the men's side, the Cajuns claimed victories in the 200 and 400-meter dash. Trejun Jones came home victorious in the 200 with a time of 21.2 seconds while Javed Jones took the 400 with a time of 48.47 seconds. Peyton Chiasson kept it rolling for the Cajuns with a win in the 800-meter, just ahead of teammate Jacob Meek who placed third.
The Cajuns went back-to-back in the men's 100 hurdles with Loubert Dagrin and Kai Hensley finishing just 0.07 seconds apart. Like the women, the men claimed all three relay events, using a different group in each event.
The men also swept the podium in the pole vault. Nick Russell just edged out teammate Timothy Gale for first, his jump of 4.61 meters was accomplished on the first try, while Trey Boucher's jump of 4.46 meters placed him third. Louisiana took home two more events on the day with Obdarius Ware claiming the long jump (7.12 meters) and Tyren Hannah winning the discus throw (48.61 meters).
UP NEXT FOR LOUISIANA
The Cajuns don't have far to go next Saturday for their next meet. They'll head to Baton Rouge for the Battle of the Bayou hosted by LSU.
