Louisiana will wrap up fall practice on Sunday at LSU

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana's John Taylor and Zach Storbakken each belted home runs to lead a 17-hit attack and the Ragin' Cajuns pitching staff pitched shutout ball through the first 10 innings in a 12-4 win over Nicholls on Sunday in a fall exhibition at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.

Storbakken went 4-for-5 at the plate as Louisiana, which finished 41-24 last season with a second straight trip to the NCAA Regionals, plated runs in the third, fourth and eight innings before adding nine runs over the final seven of the 15-inning scrimmage.

David Christie, JT Etheridge, Steven Cash and Louis-Philippe Langevin each struck out a pair of batters in their respective inning of work for the Ragin' Cajuns. Jack Martinez opened on the mound for Louisiana with an eight-pitch inning that included a strikeout.

Kyle DeBarge drove in a pair of runs, including a two-out, RBI single to break a scoreless game in the third inning for Louisiana before Taylor belted a two-out, solo home run to right in the fourth.

The Ragin' Cajuns added a run in the eighth as Storbakken reached on a single and eventually scored on a throwing error by the Colonels before scoring four runs – two unearned – in the 10th.

Lee Amedee and Ben Robichaux drove in runs in the 12th for Louisiana before Storbakken hit a solo homer to left in the 14th with Conor Higgs and Luke Yuhasz scoring on wild pitches in the 15th.

Nicholls, which reached the NCAA Regionals last season after claiming the Southland Conference Tournament title, scored in the 11th on Jaden Collura's sacrifice fly before scoring three times in the 15th.

Narvin Booker went 3-for-4 to lead the Colonels with Collura and Ashton Quiller adding two hits each. NSU starter Jacob Mayers pitched 2.0 innings of scoreless ball while reliever Michael Guerrero fanned the side in his inning of work.

Louisiana will wrap up fall practice on Sunday when it travels to Baton Rouge to face reigning national champion LSU in a noon contest at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

The Ragin' Cajuns will officially open their 2024 schedule on Feb. 16 against Wright State – a 2023 NCAA Regional participant – at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
