Louisiana Track and Field Announces Early Signing Class

The class includes 10 signees from the state of Louisiana
LAFAYETTE, Louisiana - Head coach Lon Badeaux announced the first 14 members of the Louisiana track and field early signing class on Thursday, November 16. The class includes 10 student-athletes from the state of Louisiana.

Starting the signing class is Justin Descant, a middle-distance runner from Pineville High School. Descant had a big 2023 season after placing third in Louisiana in the 800 at the 5A level. He finished second in the Region 1-5A 800 and was third in the District 2-5A 800. In the Division 1 indoor, he finished fifth in the 800 after finishing second in 2022. He holds career bests of 1:54.87 in the 800 and 4:31.00 in the 1600.
Out of Lamar High School in Houston, Texas, Kaleb Goodly joins Louisiana as a jumper. He placed first in the UIL Region 3-5A championships in the high jump and also was the Houston ISD District Champion. In the high jump, he holds a personal best of 6 feet 9 inches.
Camren Hardy, from Edna Karr High School in New Orleans, will compete for the Cajuns as a sprinter. He ranked third in the state in both the 200-meter and 400-meter events as a junior. Last year Hardy was the District 9-5A champion in the 100- and 400-meter dash. At the state 5A meet he placed third in the 400 and was second in the 200 at the Mobile Meet of Champions. He holds personal bests of 10.43 in the 100-meter, 21.15 in the 200-meter, 47.39 in the 400-meter, and 49.38 in the 400-meter indoor.
Lawson Jacobs, from Spring, Texas, finished second in the UIL 6A 400-meter championships. The Klein Forrest High School product was the District 15-6A/16-6A Meet champion and was the sixth-ranked runner in Texas in the 400 as a junior. He also placed eighth in the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships in the 400-meter. In that event, his personal record is 47.24 and in the 200-meter is 21.54.
One of five distance runners signed, Ben Lewis comes from Fountainbleu High School in Mandeville. He claimed the LHSAA District 6-5A championship in the 1600 and placed second at the LHSAA Region 2-5A event. At the 5A state event, Lewis finished seventh in the 1600.
Matthew Maynard, from Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, adds another piece as a distance runner. Maynard holds outdoor personal bests of 1:58.71 in the 800-meter, 4:29.84 in the 1600-meter, and 10:09.76 in the 3200-meter. Indoors his best times include 4:29.08 in the 1600-meter and 9:48.66 in the 3200-meter. Last year he finished third in the LHSSA Division 1 Indoor 1600 and was eighth in the LHSAA 5A Outdoor 1600.
Wrapping up the men's side are a pair from New Orleans, Josh Quintana, Jesuit High School, and Kyron Sumler, John Curtis High School.
Quintana, a distance runner, placed seventh in the LHSAA Division 1 Indoors in the 1600. He holds best times of 4:35.03 in the 1600-meter and 9:48.29 in the 3200-meter.
Sumler holds a high jump record of 6 ft. 8 inches and was the LHSAA Division 1 Indoor State Champion in 2023. He finished fourth at the LHSAA 5A State Championships and the 2023 Mobile Meet of Champions. As a junior, he ranked second in the state in the high jump indoors and fourth outdoors.
Starting off the women's class is Bethany Casey from Lafayette. At Westminster Christian, she was the LHSAA 1A State Outdoor Champion in the high jump. Her personal best in the high jump is 5 feet 6 inches.
Myah Chenier comes to the Ragin' Cajuns from Baton Rouge. The Central High School product competed at the USATF Junior Olympic National Championships where she placed 11th in the 2000-meter steeplechase. She finished fourth in the LHSAA District 4-5A 3200-meter and was fifth in the Region 2-5A 1600-meter. Her best times include 2:37.59 in the 800-meter, 5:45 in the 1600-meter, 12:32.98 in the 3200-meter, and 8:08.61 in the steeplechase.
Kimola Hines is a junior college transfer from South Plains College. Originally from Thomas Town, Clarendon, Jamaica, Hines was one of the best throwers in the nation at the NJCAA level. At the Indoor National Championships, she finished third in the weight throw, and at the Outdoor Championships placed fourth in the discus in 2023 and in 2022 was second. In the discus, her best throw was 165 feet 3 inches while in the weight throw her best was 52 feet 11 inches.
Zoie Holstead is a distance runner out of Ruston. At Ruston High School she finished seventh at the LHSAA 5A State Outdoor in the 800-meter. Her best in that event is 2:23.87 while indoor her 800 time is 2:28.93. Holstead also has personal bests of 5:30.57 in the 1600-meter and 12:21.77 in the 3200-meter.
Coming from John Curtis Christian High School is London Parker. The New Orleans native competes in sprints and mid-distance events. Last year she placed second in the LHSAA 5A Outdoor State Championships in the 800-meter and was ninth in the 200-meter. She was the Region 3-5A champion in the 800-meter, as well as the District 9-5A champion. In the 200-meter she was the district champion and finished second in the region. Parker finished fourth in the 800-meter in the LSHAA Division 1 Indoor State Championships. Her best times include 25.45 in the 200, 56.60 in the 400, 58.48 in the 400 indoor, and 2:16.46 in the 800.
Rounding out the class so far is sprinter Annah Williams out of Summer Creek High School. The Humble, Texas native ran personal bests of 7.91 in the 60 indoor, 24.89 in the 200 indoor, and 24.53 in the 200 outdoor. Despite missing part of last season with an injury, she ran in the 4x100-meter and 4x200-meter relays at the district championships. Williams and her teammates finished sixth at the UIL 6A 4x100-meter outdoor championships.
