While Sunday's match serves as the season opener for Louisiana, it is the home opener for Texas Tech (0-2) which is already two matches into its dual match season. The Red Raiders dropped tough matches in Knoxville, Tennessee to both No. 6 Tennessee and Charlotte on Monday and Tuesday earlier this week.

The stop in Lubbock marks the start of a five-match road trip for the Ragin' Cajuns to begin their Spring 2023 dual match season. Louisiana will be in Seattle, Washington from January 20-21 to face Portland and Washington and also visits Knoxville from Jan. 27-28 for the ITA Kickoff Weekend before making its home debut February 3-4 with the Louisiana Winter Classic at Cajun Courts.

Louisiana (17-6, 4-2 SBC in 2022) has its entire roster intact from the remarkable run last season that produced a 17-win season which included winning the prestigious H-E-B Tournament of Champions, rolling off a 14-match win streak and being ranked in the final ITA poll of the spring 2022 dual match season. Key returners include the No. 1 doubles tandem of Karlo Kajin and Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez who enter the season in the Top 30 of the ITA's doubles rankings and double-digit singles winners Sanchez Gonzalez (15-6), Oriol Fillat Gimenez (16-4), Vasil Dimitrov (16-7) and Calin Postea (14-5).

The Ragin' Cajuns are seeking to repeat the success of last season's trip to Lubbock. Back in February 2022, Louisiana posted a 4-1 win over the Red Raiders by taking the doubles point, opening a 2-0 match lead with Sanchez Gonzalez's win at No. 2 singles and clinching the P5 triumph when then-freshman Postea finished off his straight sets sweep.
