Liberty High product chooses the Ragin’ Cajuns for her collegiate journey
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball head coach Kristi Gray announced on Friday (June 24) the addition of Lauryn Hill (Frisco, Texas) to the program's roster for the upcoming 2022 season this fall.
Hill, who competed at outside hitter for Liberty (Texas) High School the past three seasons, has signed a National Letter of Intent and will be a freshman member of the Ragin' Cajuns roster during the 2022 season.
"This will be a player to watch over her career here at UL," Gray stated. "Lauryn is extremely athletic and a high flyer – just a natural to the sport.
"Playing under one of the most well-known club coaches in the game, she will bring a lot of knowledge to our program immediately," Gray added. "Lauryn is always composed, but a true competitor. We cannot wait to get her in the gym."
During her standout prep career at Liberty, Hill amassed over 1,000 career kills in addition to the 132 career blocks and 581 career digs that she accumulated.
She was the District 9-5A Newcomer of the Year in the 2019-20 school year, twice named the district's Hitter of the Year (2020-21 and 2021-22) and was a three-time first team all-district performer.
Hill helped the Redhawks to a district title and an appearance in the third round of the 2019-20 playoffs.
On the club volleyball level, Hill competed for Drive Nation in the DFW Metroplex area which has sent athletes to the collegiate level at Nebraska, Iowa State, Texas, Louisville, Texas Tech and UAB among other institutions.
The Frisco, Texas native hails from a family of athletes as all three of her brothers competed collegiately in football: Malcolm (Rice, 2011-15), Lewis (New Mexico State, 2012-16) and Evan (currently at Hardin-Simmons).
Hill is the fourth newcomer added to the Louisiana Volleyball roster for the 2022 season, joining transfers Mya Wilson (Georgia Southern), Paige Guidry (Nicholls) and Celeste Darling (Houston) as the newest members of the squad.
ABOUT LOUISIANA
Much like the success experienced in her five-year tenure at Odessa College prior to Louisiana, Kristi Gray orchestrated instant success with the Ragin' Cajuns (15-11, 9-7 Sun Belt) in the 2021 season.
Boosted by a clean sweep of the first round of SBC West Division play, which included the program's first-ever win over Texas State in San Marcos, Louisiana started conference play 6-1 and was in contention for the division title entering the month of November.
Louisiana operated one of the Sun Belt's most efficient and exciting offenses by utilizing Gray's up-tempo system. The team led the conference in hitting percentage through Oct. 23, remaining in the Top 5 through season's end and finishing at .230 which is the program's rally era record.
The Ragin' Cajuns return many key pieces to their productive offense including the leading point producers in outside hitters Kelsey Bennett and Coco Gillett, bring back the one-two middle blocker punch of Kara Barnes and Cami Hicks, and have setters Siena DeCambra and Reka Kotorman to once again guide the offense.
