Marler's Season-Low Round Leads Louisiana at Craft Farms Intercollegiate

GULF SHORES, Ala. – Jake Marler posted a season-low round of 1-under-par 71 and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team finished in eighth place after the first day of the 2022 Craft Farms Intercollegiate on Sunday on the Cotton Creek Course at Craft Farms Golf Club.
The second round of the 54-hole tournament will begin on Monday at 7:45 a.m. Louisiana, which will be paired with Lamar and Oakland (Mich.) in Monday's second round, posted a team score of 5-over 293 on the 7,107-yard course with Marler finishing tied for ninth in the field.
Marler birdied three of his final four holes on the front nine to finish at 1-under-35 at the turn before recording a birdie at No. 14. The Shreveport native finished the day four strokes off the individual lead held by Southern Illinois' Matthis Besard and South Alabama's Jack Hearn.
Peter Hinnant and Charlie Flynn each recorded rounds of 1-over-par 73 for Louisiana, with Hinnant recording a bogey-free 1-under 35 on the back nine. Flynn, who was 1-over 37 on the front nine, recorded an eagle on the par-5, 536-yard No. 10 for Louisiana – one of six recorded on the day by the 13-team field.
Matt Weber posted a 4-over 76 in the opening round for Louisiana while freshman Eli Ortego recorded a 5-over 77. Hudson Dubinski, competing as an individual, recorded an 87.
Tournament host South Alabama held the first-round lead in the three-day event after shooting a team score of 11-under 277. Oral Roberts was nine strokes back at 286 with Georgia State (288), Eastern Michigan (289) and Southern Illinois (289) rounding out the top five.
Louisiana will start the second round from the No. 10 tee beginning at 8:30 a.m. Live results will be available to GolfStat.com.
