Daigle Sets Fourth Program Record of the Season at Bulldog Invitational

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Track and Field senior Sophie Daigle set a new program-best time of 4:52.87 in the mile and broke her previous record of 4:58.02 at the Bulldog Invitational in Birmingham, Ala on Friday.
Daigle sits atop the Louisiana record book in the 3k, 5k and the mile.
Aside from the senior, the Ragin' Cajuns took first place in nine other events at the invitational.
The Ragin' Cajuns 4x400m men's relay team placed first for the second-consecutive meet with a time of 3:15.06. The freshmen foursome included Nathan Ferguson, Antoni Hoyte-Small, Brandon Rhone and Javed Jones.
After also earning first a week ago, the women's 4x400 team notched a third-place result with a time of 3:48.93. Louisiana's team was comprised of sophomore India Brown, freshmen Emoni Coleman, freshmen Alexandra Johnson and sophomore Reina Ryan.
Freshman Cammi Martinez continued her strong performance in the women's pole vault this season and earned the top result with a vault of 3.66m.
On the men's side, juniors Chandler Mixon and Matthew Standbridge earned first and second respectively in the event with vaults of 4.97m and 4.82m.
Freshman Shemia Odiane who has stood atop the podium in multiple events this season took first place in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.66m.
Freshmen Taylor Davis and Ariel Young took first and third respectively in the women's triple jump. Davis took the top spot with a distance of 12.03m while Young was narrowly behind with 11.26m.
Yves Chamberlin continued Louisiana's success in meet as he led the competition across the line in the 60m hurdles in 7.97 seconds. Mixon finished in 8.30 seconds to earn third.
Ferguson and Hoyte-Small paced the field in the 400m dash. Fergusson claimed first in 48.55 seconds while the Hoyte-Small came in just behind in 48.75 seconds.
Kiana Foster stood atop the podium in the 200m as the freshmen finished in 24.21 seconds. Odaine added to her resume by taking third in the event with a time of 24.86 seconds.
Before the relay's concluded the meet, sophomore Rylen Theyard wrapped up the field events by earning first place in the high jump, clearing 1.95m.
Louisiana will now shift its focus to the Sun Belt Indoor Championships that begin on Monday, Feb. 21 and will conclude on Tuesday, Feb. 22 in Birmingham.
