Five Claim top Sports for Louisiana Track and Field at FasTrak Collegiate Challenge

LAFAYETTE – Micha Reed, Brock Appiah, Shemia Odainea, Ta'La Spates and Serenity Rogers stood atop the podium for Louisiana Track and Field at the FasTrak Collegiate Challence Saturday in Houston.
Spates got the action started as she ran away from the competition in the 400m dash and crossed the line in 57.47 seconds.
Rogers claimed first overall in the women's 60m hurdles, the freshman posted a time of 8.44 seconds.
Odiane rounded out the first-place finishes on the women's side with a victory in the 60m dash. The Bridgetown, Barbados native finished in 7.55 seconds, just .04 seconds above Louisiana freshman Kiana Foster.
In addition to her success on the track, Odaine had a successful day in the field as she earned a second-place result in the long jump.
Reed and Appiah headlined the men's roster in the meet, Reed narrowly edged out Ragin' Cajun freshman Joe Patterson to take first in the 800m with a time of 1:55.54. Patterson finished just .02 seconds behind in 1:55.56.
Appiah claimed the top spot in the 60m dash with a blistering time of 6.82 seconds. Louisiana freshman Kashie Crockett came in four places behind Appiah with a time of 6.91 seconds.
Other notable results included a second-place finish by Emoni Coleman in the women's 800m (2:19.39), a third-place result by Cammi Martinez in the pole vault after clearing 3.60m and a fourth-place finish by Yves Cherubin in the 60m hurdles (7.94 sec.).
Louisiana will be back in action next weekend at the McNeese Invitational in Lake Chales, La.
