Ragin' Cajuns to begin three-match stretch, marking the first E.K. Long matches of the Kristi Gray era
LAFAYETTE - Louisiana Volleyball hosts the first home match of the Kristi Gray era on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Earl K. Long Gym facing Lamar in a non-conference contest at 6 p.m., marking the start of the program's first homestand of the 2021 season.
The Lamar matchup is the first contest of a three-match homestand for the Ragin' Cajuns that will continue Friday-Saturday, Sept. 24-25 when Georgia State and Georgia Southern visit for the first Sun Belt Conference matches of the 2021 season.
Below is the breakdown of the Ragin' Cajuns first homestand of the 2021 season:
The homestand also marks the next time that the Ragin' Cajuns (4-3) step onto the court, as the team has an open weekend scheduled (Sept. 17-18) prior to its home debut.
E.K. Long Gym will operate at 100 percent capacity for the 2021 season (face coverings are required). Admission for all matches is FREE.
The 2021 season serves as the inaugural campaign for Louisiana with head coach Kristi Gray, who was hired on April 26 after five highly successful seasons at Odessa College. The Ragin' Cajuns finished with a 3-1 mark at the Southern Miss Classic back on Aug. 27-28, finishing one set shy of an undefeated weekend, then wrapped up pre-conference tournament weekends Sept. 9-11 at the UTRGV Tournament.
The main keyword for Gray and her coaching staff is "ENERGY" and it will provide an exciting brand of volleyball for fans at E.K. Long Gym.
Kelsey Bennett has emerged as the early leader of Louisiana's offense averaging 4.1 kills per set (118 total) on a .283 percentage over the first seven matches. Kara Barnes and Cami Hicks are back leading on the frontline, both having posted 20-plus blocks. Newcomers Coco Gillett (2.8 kills/set) and Emery Judkins (2.2 kills per set) compliment Bennett on offense, while the Ragin' Cajuns efforts are guided by first-year setters Siena DeCambra and Reka Kotorman.
