Â
>> The Ragin' Cajuns and Panthers meet in a Good Friday doubleheader at 12 p.m. (CDT), then conclude the series the next day with a single game at 12 p.m. (CDT).
Â
>> It's the first series meeting between the two programs since 2019. The 2020 series in Decatur was canceled by the COVID-19 shutdown.
Â
>> Two teams headed in the opposite direction meet this weekend. Louisiana has won seven straight while Georgia State has lost seven straight.
Â
>> The GSU series kicks off a 10-game road trip for the Ragin' Cajuns. The trek continues Monday-Wednesday, April 5-7 with midweek games in Texas (Lamar, Sam Houston, Houston) and wraps up Friday-Sunday, April 9-11 with a key Sun Belt Conference showdown at Troy
Â
THIS 'N THATÂ Â
>> The current seven-game win streak for Louisiana is also to team's season-best streak.
Â
>> Kandra Lamb claimed Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week honors for her commanding performance vs. South Alabama and Georgia Southern: 25 strikeouts, seven hits and a .137 average over 14-2/3 innings.
Â
>> With a combined 21 scoreless innings pitched from Summer Ellyson and Kandra Lamb, Louisiana became the first opposing staff to shut out South Alabama in an entire Sun Belt series since April 2017 (Texas State).
Â
>> Since the March 20 loss at UT Arlington, the Louisiana pitching staff has bounced back and held opponents to seven runs (five earned), 27 hits and a .157 average over the last 49 innings.
Â

Â
>> Ciara Bryan's walk-off RBI double in Game 2 vs. South Alabama marked the second time in as many series she delivered the game-winning run in the 7th inning (adding to home run in UTA finale).
Â
>> The 17-game hitting streak recorded by Ciara Bryan from Feb. 26-March 27 was the longest by a Ragin' Cajun since Brianna Cherry produced one the exact length during the 2013 season.

Â
A QUICK LOOK AT THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
Infield: The Ragin' Cajuns have one of the best infield units in the country, and it may have been strengthened further by the adjustments made during the final week of March. Returning shortstop Alissa Dalton remains the anchor of the unit with her astounding range at shortstop. Sure-handed defender Kaitlyn Alderink switched sides and moved to third base (from second base) to assist Dalton in locking down the left side. Jade Gortarez has settled in at second base after starting the year on the left side alternating between third and shortstop. Melissa Mayeux took over at first base in the new-look alignment, but expect Justice Milz to see time at the position as well.
Â
Outfield: Returning center fielder Raina O'Neal (hit .329 with nearly 30 extra base hits previous two seasons) is out for the regular season with an injury. Ciara Bryan has taken over in center field and continues to be one of most dynamic hitters in the nation. Kendall Talley closed March with a six-game hitting streak and seems to have claimed the left field slot. Right field has been a rotation of Jenna Kean, who adds elite speed to the base path, Karly Heath and Julie Rawls who provides veteran experience for late-game adjustments.
Â
Pitchers: Efforts in the circle are led by Summer Ellyson once again. She led the nation in wins (39) in 2019, and was off to an 11-1 start (1.83 ERA) in 2020 with wins over Oklahoma State, Ole Miss and Florida. Kandra Lamb emerged as the front-runner for the No. 2 spot following solid outings in her first career starts against ranked teams (at Louisiana State, vs. Oklahoma State). Casey Dixon, Vanessa Foreman and Karly Heath provide added depth and options to shorten innings pitched for Ellyson and Lamb.
Â
Catchers: Julie Rawls, the mainstay from the past two seasons, is joined by Bailey Curry who trained at the position in preseason practice and freshman Sophie Piskos who was called into duty the last week of March due to an injury with Rawls. Curry and Piskos allow for a rotation that can keep Rawls' legs rested for the postseason. Rawls has led Louisiana in slugging percentage the past two seasons.
Â
UP NEXT FOR LOUISIANA
The Ragin' Cajuns continue their Spring Break road trip with three consecutive days of midweek contests in the state of Texas starting on Monday, April 5 with a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Lamar in Beaumont. Play continues Tuesday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m. in Huntsville against Sam Houston State followed by a 6 p.m. single game at Houston on Wednesday, April 7.
After wrapping up play in Texas, the series of road games comes to a close Friday-Sunday, April 9-11 in Troy, Ala., with a key Sun Belt Conference showdown against the Trojans.
