Ragin' Cajuns set to officially open spring season at Border Olympics
LAFAYETTE – Due to the severe winter weather expected to affect much of the South this weekend, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team's Spring opener at the All-American Intercollegiate in Houston has been postponed, in an announcement made by University of Houston Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke.
Â
Louisiana was scheduled to begin the three-day, 54-hole event on Sunday joining Houston, Baylor, Georgia State, Lamar, Louisville, New Mexico, New Mexico State, North Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Rice, Sam Houston State, Texas, Texas A&M, ULM, UT Arlington and UTSA at Golf Club of Houston.
Â
Temperatures are expected to fall into the teens with ice and wintry mix being possible throughout the area in the coming days.
Â
Dismuke said he is working with the teams and the Golf Club of Houston to reschedule the tournament in March.
Â
"We were very excited about starting our spring season in Houston and playing in a tremendous event at the Golf Club of Houston," Louisiana head coach Theo Sliman said. "We completely understand and agree with the decision to postpone the tournament for the safety and best interests of the student-athletes. We look forward to working on rescheduling the tournament later in the spring."
Â
Louisiana will now open its spring schedule on Feb. 22-23 at the Border Olympics at the Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas. The Ragin' Cajuns will join Houston in the 17-team field that includes Abilene Christian, Arkansas State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Houston Baptist, Illinois State, Kent State, Little Rock, Michigan, New Mexico State, Rice, Sam Houston State, Texas, ULM and UTSA.
