Men’s Tennis Opens Spring Season at No. 6 Texas

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Men's Tennis team will kick off its 2021 spring season at the University of Texas on Friday with the match beginning at 2 p.m.
The Ragin' Cajuns' 13-3 start to the 2020 season paid dividends with the team, finding itself in the ITA Top 75 rankings at No. 70 before the remainder of the campaign was canceled due to COVID-19.
Louisiana returns Ivailo Keremedchiev, Karlo Kajin and Kacper Dworak from last year's team. All three were big-time contributors in the lineup, with Keremedchiev playing a few matches at No. 1 singles.
The Ragin' Cajuns have five new players on the roster this year: Alejo Ferrer Chueca, Oriol Fillat Gimenez, Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez, Grant Landreth and Xandy Hammitt. Ferrer Chueca, Fillat Gimenez and Sanchez Gonzalez are big additions from Spain, while Landreth is a Lafayette native and Hammitt is a transfer from Drexel.
Prior to the season ending last year, Texas was ranked No. 4 in the ITA Team Rankings and currently ranked sixth. There are also four Longhorns ranked within the ITA Division I Men's Singles Preseason Top 125 rankings.
