LAFAYETTE - In this Q&A feature article, you will get to "Kneaux" men's tennis' Alejo Ferrer Chueca. The Tarazona, Spain, native is the third Spaniard in head coach Mark Jeffrey's incoming class.
Where are you from and how did you first hear about the University of Louisiana?
I'm from a town called Tarazona, near Zaragoza, in Spain. I heard from this university the first time that Mark Jeffrey contacted me in order to join the tennis team here.
How many family members do you have, and how have they played a role in you getting to Louisiana?
I have one older brother, he is 23, besides my parents. They told me that this was an incredible opportunity to develop my tennis, but also to grow as a person, as being abroad broadens your mind and makes you take care of yourself. We decided that this was the best university for me because of the weather (hot climate) and then the area, near New Orleans and the bayous.
What is the typical food from your region?
I'm lucky because we have a big variety od food in Spain, and it is also from a very good quality. I couldn't say something unique if I had to tell some food.
What is your favorite thing to do away from the tennis courts?
Hanging out with friends, going to some place with some place to take a snack, or drink something. But I also love videogames.
What is the most difficult thing to adapt to while here in Louisiana?
Probably, the hardest thing is humidity, but I think I have got used to it.
What is the outlook for you and the Men's Tennis Team this year?
We are gonna try get in the top 50 and fight the best teams in the nation. It's tough, but at least we have to try it.
What are some expectations for yourself this tennis season?
I'd like to win the most matches as possible to help the team win the conference and make it to the NCAA championship. That'd be awesome for us, not only for me.
