Louisiana Athletics has teamed up with RoadRunnerApp.com to offer a new series on RaginCajuns.com in which student-athletes share details on how they've adjusted during the COVID-19 pandemic, and offer insight into their personal lives.

In this Q&A feature article, you will "Get to Kneaux" volleyball's Avery Breaux. Born and raised in Lafayette, Avery's Ragin' Cajuns experience dates back to her early childhood days. She is Louisiana's starting setter and a reigning All-Sun Belt Conference performer (earned second team honors in 2019). Avery is preparing for her senior season, which arrives this coming fall.

What has been your daily routine during the COVID-19 quarantine?
AB: My daily routine:
  • 8:30-9am - wakeup/ eat breakfast
  • 10am - Study time
  • 1pm - Lunch break
  • 2:30 - class
  • 5:30pm - workout
  • 6:30pm - dinner/ hangout with my family
What has Coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot's message to your team been during this unprecedented time?
AB: Coach's message during this time has been to encourage us to stay connected and find a way to get better. She explained that our upcoming season is likely going to be a different one, and that we need to make sure we're prepared and ready to go when we are able to return to campus.

How have you and your teammates stuck together remotely during this challenging time period?
AB: Our coaching staff has done an extremely great job of trying to keep us connected to one another. We have had team meetings, and even small group meetings, in order to continue to grow while we are all separated. I have also spoken to my teammates on a one-on-one basis. We have done a good job staying in touch.

Take us back to when you decided to come to the University and become a Ragin' Cajun. What about the school helped you make that decision?
AB: I am from Lafayette … so the decision was pretty easy for me. Growing up, my family had season tickets to multiple Louisiana Athletics events. I grew up loving the Ragin' Cajuns. Being able to have my family at all of our matches was something I looked forward to as well.

What are your plans after your academic and athletic career at Louisiana is done?
AB: I am currently majoring in speech pathology, so after I graduate I plan on pursuing my master's degree.

What is your earliest sports memory?
AB: My earliest sports memory is of my cousin teaching me how to play volleyball using a makeshift net in my backyard.

Growing up, your sports hero was who? And why?
AB: Growing up, my sports hero was Chloe Collins (setter at Texas from 2013-16). I was always one of the smallest kids growing up, so watching a setter who was also a little undersized play at a high level was something that I admired.

An important question: what is your favorite food?
AB: My favorite food is anything my mom cooks.
