Louisiana’s Path in Sun Belt Conference Tournament Revealed

Ragin’ Cajuns lead off the tournament with first pool play contest at Noon on Wednesday
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team and all other Sun Belt Conference volleyball programs are set to descend upon the Foley Sports Tourism Complex in Foley, Ala., to compete for the league's tournament title from Wednesday, Nov. 18-Sunday, Nov. 22.
New for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in 2020 is a format change for the path to the title. All 12 teams will be competing in pool play leading into a four-team knockout round bracket in the new five-day format.
Teams have been divided into four pools of three teams each and will play a round robin schedule over three days beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 18. Pool winners will then advance to a single elimination knockout round bracket starting on Saturday, Nov. 21 with the semifinals followed by the tournament championship match on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 1 p.m.
Louisiana (17-5, 11-5 SBC) is the No. 2 seed from the SBC West Division and is paired in Pool D with SBC East No. 3 seed Georgia State (8-10, 7-9 SBC) and SBC West No. 5 seed Little Rock (4-13, 4-12 SBC).
The Ragin' Cajuns are set to kick off the SBC Tournament with its first pool play contest at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18 against Little Rock. It will mark the fourth matchup of the season between the two SBC West foes.
After a day off from tournament play, Louisiana concludes pool play on Friday, Nov. 20 meeting Georgia State in a 12 p.m. contest. Due to SBC teams playing division-only schedules this season, the two teams did not face each other in the regular season.
Louisiana carries a five-match series win streak over both Little Rock and Georgia State to Foley. The Ragin' Cajuns claimed a three-match series sweep of the Trojans in Little Rock back in September.
The winner of the Ragin' Cajuns pool group will face the Pool A winner in the 4 p.m. semifinal match of the knockout round on Saturday, Nov. 21 for the right to advance to Sunday's championship contest. Pool A is comprised of: SBC East No. 1 Coastal Carolina (16-0, 16-0 SBC), SBC West No. 4 Arkansas State (8-8, 8-8 SBC) and SBC East No. 6 Appalachian State (1-12, 1-12 SBC).
All matches in the SBC Tournament will be streamed on ESPN+. Live video links for the matches involving Louisiana can be found on the Volleyball schedule page at RaginCajuns.com. Live stats will be available at CajunStats.com.
The 2020 event marks the 14th overall appearance for Louisiana in the SBC Tournament, and the seventh under the guidance of head coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot. The Ragin' Cajuns seek the first-ever title in program history.
Teams will operate pass lists for admittance into Sun Belt Conference Tournament. All spectators must wear face coverings at all times while inside the championship facility.
