Annual holiday gift drive focuses on impacting area in-need families

LAFAYETTE - Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Athletics has partnered with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Police Department for its Annual Adopt-A-Family Holiday Gift Program.

Every year, the Department of Athletics' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) spearheads a donation drive for area in-need families around the holidays. During this holiday season, University police officers will assist with gift donations and the delivery process.

"On a yearly basis, our student-athletes adopt a family during the holidays in order to give back to our community and help those in need," said Carleigh Collins, Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance. "To have our campus law enforcement offer their help in this process is a wonderful showing of support towards our student-athletes' mission of positively impacting Lafayette and the surrounding area."

The partnership with the campus police department was built on one of the pillars of the Sun Belt Conference's Be The Change initiative, which was launched in June to drive civil rights dialogue, civic engagement and collaboration with local law enforcement amongst the Sun Belt's member schools and their respective communities.
