Louisiana Lands Top 10 National Finish in Digs Per Set

@RaginCajunsVB spent the entire season, and led the Sun Belt, inside the Top 20
LAFAYETTE - Charged by surpassing 50 digs in all but two of the squad's 30 matches contested throughout the 2019 season, Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball finished among the Top 10 national leaders in digs per set.
Louisiana, which led the Sun Belt Conference and ranked inside the Top 20 nationally the entire season, wound up finishing No. 9 with an average of 17.88 digs per set. It was the program's highest per set average recorded in the rally scoring era (2001-present) and the second time in the past three seasons averaging 17-plus per set (17.06 in 2017).

The Ragin' Cajuns final season total of 1,967 digs was a close second to the current rally-era record of 2,064 set in 2017.
The Top 10 finish was spearheaded by libero Hannah Ramirez who was consistent in her efforts all season long, averaging nearly the same digs per set in SBC play (4.60) as non-conference (4.57). Ramirez's 488 total digs - the 10th-most recorded by a Ragin' Cajun in the rally scoring era - led a group of four Louisiana players who surpassed 200 digs, a list which also included Avery Breaux (312), Hali Wisnoskie (294) and Kelsey Bennett (276) - all players returning in 2020.
Ramirez, the 2019 Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year, ranked Top 5 in the league and finished inside the Top 100 of the nation's individual listing.
Louisiana was one of only 30 teams (out of 332 total) in the NCAA Division I ranks to average over 17 digs per set. Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot's squad was the lone Sun Belt school in the grouping.
The Ragin' Cajuns (14-16, 10-6 Sun Belt in 2019) ended the season as the hottest team in the Sun Belt, claiming nine of their final 10 conference matches to claim a runner-up spot in the SBC West Division. All but one starter in the rotation is set to return to build upon the success in 2020.
