Texas State Tops Louisiana in Sun Belt Conference Opener

Offense gives the Bobcats an advantage in the four-set battle in San Marcos
SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State held the advantage in offensive production and that led the Bobcats to a 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-13, 25-20) win over Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball on the opening night of Sun Belt Conference play.

The hosts landed 63 kills on a .237 hitting percentage while using its defense, spurred by 97 digs, to limit the Ragin' Cajuns (4-10, 0-1 Sun Belt) to 42 kills on a .130 hitting percentage.

Four straight kills following a 19-all tie in the opening set provided Texas State (9-6, 1-0 Sun Belt) with an opening-set win. Louisiana turned the tide in the second stanza when back-to-back blocks from Kelsey Bennett and Dree'Ana Abram erased a 9-8 deficit and the squad never trailed again.

With the match lead on the line in the third set, the Bobcats fired off 16 kills at a .412 clip to outdistance themselves from the Ragin' Cajuns.

A four-point run, which included a pair of aces served up by Abram, gave Louisiana an early 7-5 lead. A few short rallies later Texas State responded with a four-point spurt of its own to forge ahead 10-8 and didn't relinquish the lead. Â

The match marked the start of Louisiana's 29th season of competition in the Sun Belt Conference.

LEADING THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
Hali Wisnoskie led the way in kills for the third straight match, scoring 12 kills. Abram joined her in double figures with 10 kills off of her 21 swings.

Bennett was busy with nine kills, 22 digs and a pair of blocks. Freshman Celeste Darling landed seven kills pushing her season total over 100 (now at 101 kills).

Hannah Ramirez collected 23 digs, one off her season-high figure, and Avery Breaux handed out a career-high 35 assists.

Abram had a hand in four blocks in helping Louisiana out-block the Texas State 7.0-4.0. It marked her fifth match of at least four blocks this season.
