Matchup with Southeastern Louisiana kicks off fall slate for Louisiana Softball

LAFAYETTE – Softball returns to Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park on Friday when the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns offer their first preview of the 2020 season for fans and supporters during an exhibition game against Southeastern Louisiana.

The Ragin' Cajuns and Lions are scheduled to compete in a 10-inning contest. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.

THE DETAILS
  • Admission is free and open to the public.
  • Louisiana Athletics Department's clear bag policy will be implemented. For more information on the clear bag policy, visit www.RaginCajuns.com/clearbag.
  • Concessions, which include soft drinks and light snacks, will be available for purchase.
Friday's action rounds out the first full week of fall practice for Louisiana which began drills back on Sept. 20. It's also the first chance this fall to compete against outside competition.

The SLU matchup is the first in a series of four exhibition games for the Ragin' Cajuns which continues next weekend with McNeese (Oct. 5) and Lake Land College (Oct. 6) at Lamson Park, followed by a road trip to McNeese (Oct. 15).

"These intersquads give us the first chance to see how comfortable the newcomers will be in front of a crowd, and how they respond," Louisiana Softball head coach Gerry Glasco said. "We'll also use this as an opportunity to develop our depth and pinpoint those 10-13 hitters who will get several at bats this spring."

Louisiana enters its third season under Glasco's guidance in 2020, seeking to build upon one of the program's most successful seasons ever. The 2019 squad swept the Sun Belt regular season and tournament championships, boasted a Top 10 national ranking, earned the program's 21st consecutive NCAA Tournament bid and recorded the first 50-win campaign since 2012.

The return of All-American and Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year Summer Ellyson, Sun Belt Player of the Year Alissa Dalton and Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year Sarah Hudek, plus the addition of Oregon transfers Megan Kleist and Mia Camuso and Missouri transfers Callie Martin and Geana Torres, has excitement for a memorable season running extremely high.
