Louisiana Volleyball Tops Houston Baptist in Exhibition Match

HOUSTON – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball captured a 3-2 (25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 25-23, 5-15) win over Houston Baptist in an exhibition contest on Saturday at Sharp Gym on the HBU campus.

Louisiana secured the match triumph by winning the final three rallies of a hard-fought fourth set. Back-to-back blocks from the tandem of Celeste Darling and Elise Baranco triggered the comeback from a 23-22 deficit.

The contest marked the completion of preseason camp for the Ragin' Cajuns who open the 2019 campaign Friday-Saturday, Aug. 30-31 with the DoubleTree Classic at Earl K. Long Gym.

LEADING THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
Darling delivered a match-high 12 kills and contributed four blocks. Dree'Ana Abram was the other Ragin' Cajun to reach double figures in kills, tallying 11 on just 19 swings.

They were supported by nine kills from Julia Angelo and eight from Kelsey Bennett.

Avery Breaux ran the offense and handed out 39 assists. The junior setter scored a double-double by collecting 14 digs.

Milayne Danna wore the libero jersey and scooped a match-high 21 digs. Angelo (15 digs) and Hannah Ramirez (14 digs) rounded out Louisiana's quartet which reached double digits.

The Ragin' Cajuns out-hit the Huskies .169-.097 and out-dug the hosts 74-71.

UP NEXT FOR LOUISIANA
Louisiana officially begins the 2019 season by kicking off a season-opening, seven-match homestand Friday-Saturday, Aug. 30-31 with the DoubleTree Classic at Earl K. Long Gym.

The Ragin' Cajuns face Incarnate Word at 1:30 p.m. and UTEP at 6:30 p.m. on Opening Day (Aug. 30), then wrap up the weekend facing Tulane at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday (Aug. 31).

Admission for all tournament matches, and the entire season, is free.
