SETTING THE SCENE
10th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball and McNeese are set to complete a midweek, home-and-home series on Wednesday in Lake Charles. The matchup between the I-10 neighbors is slated to begin at 6 p.m. at Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond.

Louisiana (29-4) closes out its current seven-game road trip which has included sweeps of South Alabama and Georgia Southern which has extended the team's current road win streak to 10 games.

The Ragin' Cajuns and Cowgirls (17-20) met two weeks ago at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park with the visitors claiming a 5-4 win in 11 innings.

Wednesday's outing begins a week-long stay in the state of Louisiana for the Ragin' Cajuns, who host UT Arlington this weekend and Southeastern Louisiana next Wednesday, before a spring break trip to the Carolinas to face Appalachian State, Campbell and UNC Greensboro.

Head coach Gerry Glasco seeks to get the offense back operating at a high level this week after being held to 11 runs in the Georgia Southern series. Pitching-wise, the staff enters the McNeese contest having allowed only one earned run over the past four games.

Louisiana makes its second trip of the Glasco era to Cowgirl Diamond. Last season, the Ragin' Cajuns captured a 5-3 win on April 18, 2018.

SERIES HISTORY (Louisiana leads, 100-25)
  • Second-oldest series in program history (125 meetings) trailing only ULM (135).
  • Cowgirls snapped Louisiana's 10-game series win streak back on March 20.
  • Louisiana has claimed the last six meetings at Cowgirl Diamond (dates back to Feb. 2008).
  • Since 1991, when Louisiana led series 21-20, the Ragin' Cajuns have won 79 of 84 meetings to take command of the series (won 38 straight from 1994 to 2004).

A QUICK LOOK AT THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
Infield: Louisiana is anchored on the left side by two of the best infielders in the country in senior third baseman Kara Gremillion and junior shortstop Alissa Dalton – both career .950-plus fielders. Returning starting second baseman Casidy Chaumont and Keeli Milligan have taken turns starting at the position. At first base, returning starter Kourtney Gremillion and Toledo transfer Bailey Curry share time at the position.

Outfield: Texas A&M transfer Sarah Hudek shifted to left field at the start of Sun Belt play (March 8 at Texas State). Texas Tech transfer Raina O'Neal, who sat out due to transfer rules in 2018, is making her Louisiana debut in center field and has started each game at the position. The past two weekends, Lexie Comeaux and Kourtney Gremillion have filled the right field spot when Keeli Milligan started at second base. Aeriyl Mass provides a boost with her speed and spends time in right field as a defensive replacement.

Pitchers: Preseason Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year Summer Ellyson is back as Louisiana's lead pitcher. Ellyson, a 20-game winner who ranked Top 40 nationally in all major pitching categories in 2018, enters this week ranked as the national leader in victories (20) and is the Sun Belt's leader in strikeouts (171). Sophomore Carrie Boswell and freshman Kandra Lamb of Australia have been the first out of the bullpen and the starting pitchers when Ellyson rests. Fifth-year senior Alison Deville and sophomore Casey Dixon add additional depth.

Catchers: Senior Lexie Comeaux and Northwestern State transfer Julie Rawls, converted to the position from the outfield, serve as the Ragin' Cajuns' main catchers. Comeaux fills the designated player role, and occasionally plays in the outfield, in order to keep her bat in the game. Rawls has seen the bulk of the playing time behind the plate in order to continue her development.

NOTABLE STREAKS AND TRENDS
  • Louisiana enters a fourth consecutive week ranked inside the Top 10 of the national polls. The Ragin' Cajuns are ranked No. 10 in both the USA Today/NFCA and ESPN/USA Softball Top 25.
  • Last weekend's sweep of Georgia Southern marked the program's 50th consecutive Sun Belt series won dating back to March 2013.
  • Summer Ellyson posted two wins at Georgia Southern, increasing her nation-leading total to 20. She's reached the 20-win plateau for the second straight season (23-10, 1.53 ERA in 2018).
  • Summer Ellyson recorded five double-digit strikeouts performances from March 11 through March 29. During the streak, which spanned nine appearances, she struck out 80 batters over 54-2/3 innings pitched.
  • For the second straight weekend Alissa Dalton turned in the series-high batting average, hitting .556 (5-for-9) in Statesboro. Over the past two weeks, Dalton is hitting.609 (14-for-23), has accounted for 10 runs and driven in six runs in two-out situations.
  • Alissa Dalton brings a team-best, nine-game hitting streak into this week's action.
  • Louisiana's pitching staff worked 21 innings in the Georgia Southern series and allowed only one earned run. On Saturday, Carrie Boswell pitched six-plus innings and held the Eagles without an earned run scored.
  • Kara Gremillion finished the weekend in Statesboro with back-to-back multiple hit games. She wound up with four hits and a .444 average, second-best in both categories in the lineup.
  • On Sunday at Georgia Southern, Kara Gremillion started at third base for the 200th consecutive game. She's played each game since debuting with Louisiana in 2016.
  • Carrie Boswell made her third start of the season on Saturday at Georgia Southern and pitched a season-high 6-2/3 innings. Boswell has worked 13-1/3 innings the past two weekends and earned three wins.
  • With nine home runs already to her credit, Julie Rawls is one shy of matching her career-best set a season ago at Northwestern State.
  • Keeli Milligan (35-for-38 in stolen bases) is five stolen bases away from becoming only the second player in school history to reach 40 in a single season. The only other player to reach the mark was Dorsey Steamer who set the single season record with 51 in 1992.
  • Led by Keeli Milligan, the Ragin' Cajuns have collected 109 stolen bases (in 124 attempts). The program record is 127 recorded back in 1994.
  • Louisiana's offense includes eight players with 20-plus hits, eight with multiple home runs, nine with double-digit RBI and 10 hitting above .300.
  • The Ragin' Cajuns have started fast in 2019, scoring in the first inning 16 times and being the first to light up the scoreboard in 26 of 33 outings.
