Louisiana Softball Advances to No. 9 in Both National Polls

@RaginCajunsSB moves up a second straight week, reaches highest ranking of 2019
LAFAYETTE – A second consecutive undefeated week, which extended the team's current winning streak to eight games, resulted in another move in the national rankings and a unanimous Top 10 position for Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball.

For the second straight week Louisiana moved up in both the USA Today/NFCA and ESPN/USA Softball Top 25 polls, landing at No. 9 in both listings.

It's the highest ranking of the 2019 season in both polls for Gerry Glasco's squad. The Ragin' Cajuns make their debut inside the Top 10 of the ESPN/USA Softball ranking.

Louisiana, preseason ranked No. 15 (NFCA) and No. 18 (ESPN), remains among the Top 10 for the second consecutive week. Since opening weekend, the squad has been at least Top 15 each week.

Dating back to April 2013, Louisiana Softball has been included in 91 consecutive releases of the Top 25 polls.

Led by Summer Ellyson in the circle and Julie Rawls at the plate the Ragin' Cajuns won five games over seven days last week. Ellyson's season-high 17 strikeouts highlighted a 4-1 win over Big 12-foe Baylor while Rawls hit .750 with a series-high eight RBI in the Sun Belt sweep of Troy.

The current homestand for No. 9 Louisiana (23-3, 6-0 Sun Belt) wraps up Wednesday when I-10 neighbor McNeese visits Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m., for the Louisiana Salutes contest honoring veterans and active military.

The Ragin' Cajuns return to Sun Belt action Friday through Sunday in Mobile, Ala., with a three-game series at South Alabama.
