@RaginCajunsWT Storms Back Against Southeastern Louisiana, Wins 4-2

2/8/2019 8:23:00 PM | Women's Tennis

LAFAYETTE – After dropping the doubles point, Louisiana Women's Tennis (4-2) dug deep to storm back, taking four points in singles to complete a 4-2 comeback win over Southeastern Louisiana (2-2) Friday evening at Cajun Courts.

Junior Marina Rodriguez Garcia locked up the win for Louisiana, winning at No. 4 singles to clinch the match for Louisiana.  Sophomore Floriane Picaut, at No. 1 and freshmen Hoda Habib (No. 2) and Ai Noa Fabre (No. 6) each snagged wins for Louisiana to help complete the comeback.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Doubles): Louisiana dropped the doubles point to put themselves behind the Lady Lions when the match rolled into singles.  Despite the hole Louisiana found themselves in, the Ragin' Cajuns built the foundation for the comeback during doubles, with Habib and Fabre taking their match at No. 2 doubles, 7-5, over Southeastern's Dornieden and Scholz to push the doubles point to a deciding match at No. 1.

Louisiana dropped that match, and entered singles down 1-0, but the momentum had been built and Louisiana took advantage of it during singles to begin and finish the comeback.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Singles): Habib got Louisiana off to the right foot, with a 6-2, 6-2, straight set win over Scholz at No. 2 singles to quickly tie the match up at 1-1.  Picaut then pushed Louisiana in front with her own straight set win, 6-2, 6-3, over Insani to give Louisiana a 2-1 lead.

Junior Clara Mantaux fell at No. 5 singles, 2-6, 6-4, 3-6, to Mercier in a three-set battle that saw Mantaux almost complete her own personal comeback before falling just short to allow Southeastern to tie things up at 2-2.  The next two wins for Louisiana came in the form of three-set wins, showcasing the never give up attitude of the 2019 squad.

Fabre came away with a big 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 win over Bierma, holding off the Southeastern Louisiana student-athlete to push Louisiana to the brink of victory.  It was Garcia at No. 4 singles who locked up the win for Louisiana with a passionate 5-7, 7-6(1), 6-2, win over Dornicden.

Garcia flipped the momentum of her match, and Louisiana's match, when she dominated her tiebreaking second-set win to set her up for a third set victory.  Garcia's clinching win gave Louisiana a 4-2 win of its in-state rival, and it snapped a two-match losing streak at the start of what will become a four-match homestand for the Ragin' Cajuns.

UP NEXT FOR THE CAJUNS: Louisiana returns to Cajun Courts on Sunday, Feb. 24 when the welcome the Sam Houston State Bearkats to Lafayette, La., for a 11 a.m. first serve.
