LAFAYETTE – After yet another rainout in Ruston, La., Louisiana Women's Tennis (4-2) returns home for what will be its first match since Friday, Feb. 8, when the Sam Houston Bearkats (3-3) come to Cajun Courts for a Sunday, Feb. 24 late morning matchup with first serve scheduled for 11 a.m.
FLO LEADS FROM THE FRONT: Playing five out of six matches at No. 1 singles, sophomore Floriane Picaut has led the way for Louisiana going 4-1 at No. 1 and 5-1 overall in singles. She has won her previous three matches, all at No. 1, having won six out of seven sets during the stretch and the one set she dropped led to her completing a three-set comeback in her win over Rhea Verma from Northwestern State on Feb. 2.
STRONG FOUNDATION: Louisiana's strength over the first six matches of the season has come from its middle to bottom portion of the lineup. Juniors Marina Rodriguez Garcia and Clara Mantaux have controlled the middle primarily playing No. 3 through No. 5 singles.
Garcia has gone 4-1 overall, 3-0 at No. 4 singles and Mantaux has followed that up having gone 2-0 at No. 4 singles, helping Louisiana to a 5-1 record overall at No. 4 singles. While at No. 6 Louisiana is undefeated, thanks to junior Milena Achlamov's 2-0 record and freshman Ai Noa Fabre going 3-0 at No. 6, giving Louisiana a 5-0 record at No. 6 helping Louisiana to a strong 4-2 start to the season.
WHAT THE BEARKATS BRING: Much like Louisiana, Sam Houston State had its last match cancelled due to weather, with the Bearkats' matchup in College Station, Texas against No. 21 Texas A&M on Feb. 10 cancelled. Sam Houston State's last match was at North Texas on Feb. 8, which resulted in a 6-1 loss for the Bearkats and their last win came against UTSA on Feb. 1 when they took down the Roadrunners, 5-2.
This will be the first matchup with Sam Houston State since 2006 and the third since 2004. Louisiana, since 2004, is 3-0 against the Bearkats having won the previous three matches by a combined score 17-3.
