Final round moved to 8 a.m., shotgun start
LAFAYETTE – Jack Tolson and Colin Troxler each rebounded from sub-par first-rounds to each record a 1-over-par 73 in the second, and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team battled windy and rainy conditions to cap off the first day of the 34th annual Louisiana Classics on Monday at Oakbourne Country Club.
The final 18 holes will begin on Tuesday with an 8 a.m., shotgun start. A live video stream from Hole No. 9 will be available at RaginCajuns.com/watch beginning in 9 a.m., with live results available at GolfStat.com. Louisiana, which will tee off from holes 9 – 12 in the final round, will be paired with North Texas, Oral Roberts and Sam Houston State.
Tolson overcame a 3-over-par 75 in the opening round for Louisiana, which battled cold, windy conditions in the opening round to post a team score of 304 in the opening round and 599 after two rounds. The junior finished the first 36 holes at 4-over 148 as he led the Ragin' Cajuns to a team score of 295 in mostly a light drizzle.
Troxler opened the day with a 5-over-77 and finished tied for 31st place at 150 with Charlie Flynn (78-74-152), Hudson Dubinski (74-78-152) and Micah Goulas (80-75-155) rounding out Louisiana's primary lineup.
The remaining five players on the roster - Peter Hinnant, Bjorn Gudjonsson, Cole Kendrick, Triston Elston and Justin Caldwell – were among a group of 12 golfers competing as an individual.
After posting an 81 in the opening round, Hinnant posted his third round in the 60's this season, posting a 4-under 68 to finish at 5-over 149. Gudjonsson (77-73-150), Kendrick (75-78-153), Elston (77-79-156) and Caldwell (81-77-158) following.
McNeese State posted rounds of 290 and 291 to record a team score of 581 and finish one stroke ahead of first-round leader UTSA (289-293-582) in the 15-team field. No. 26-ranked Illinois (295-290-585) was third overall followed by Texas State (297-295-592) and Kent State (303-291-594).
Illinois' Tommy Kuhl, competing as an individual, and Chad Sewell of UTSA finished as the co-leaders after the second round after recording a 2-under 142. UTSA's Collin Clark, also competing individually, and Blake Elliott of McNeese joined the leaders as the only players in the 87-player field to finish below par after 36 holes.
