Mean Green see early lead over No. 10 Louisiana stand in reversing earlier fortune
WACO, Texas – An early lead would stand for North Texas in the second matchup of the day with 10th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball at the Baylor Invitational as the Mean Green captured a 5-1 win in the bracket semifinals.
Similar to the contest earlier in the day the Mean Green (9-4) plated two runs in the first inning, benefitting from a Lacy Gregory home run. Starting pitcher Hope Trautwein, who held the Ragin' Cajuns to three hits, prevented a comeback from Louisiana (14-1) this time.
The loss snapped the Ragin' Cajuns season-opening winning streak at 14 games. It sends the squad to Sunday's consolation game at 10 a.m. against the Baylor-Kent State loser.
LEADING THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
Raina O'Neal belted her fourth home run of the season in the fifth inning to get Louisiana on the board.
Alissa Dalton singled in the fourth inning to extend her current hitting streak to four games.
Summer Ellyson struck out eight batters and scattered four hits in her five innings of work. Kandra Lamb pitched the final two innings and added two more strikeouts to the staff's total.

No. 10 Louisiana closes out play at the Baylor Invitational on Sunday at 10 a.m. in the consolation game against the loser of the Baylor-Kent State bracket semifinal game.

- The Mean Green took hold of the lead in their first at bat off the swing of Gregory. Louisiana got Keeli Milligan to third base with one out in the bottom half of the inning, but Trautwein escaped the threat.
- Louisiana's offense broke Trautwein's hold in the fourth inning with back-to-back singles from Kara Gremillion and Dalton. The Mean Green worked out of the jam after Trautwein forced Bailey Curry to into a double play keeping the lead at 3-0.
- North Texas added a key insurance run in the fifth inning when a leadoff double resulted in a run upping the advantage to 4-0.
- O'Neal ended Trautwein's shutout bid with her solo blast over the wall in left center.
