2/22/2019 4:51:00 PM | Softball
Louisiana scores each inning in coasting to runaway win over Kent State
Â
Louisiana (12-0) plated eight runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to distance themselves from the Golden Flashes (4-3).
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns tied their season-high runs total and collected a season-best 19 total hits spread out amongst nine different players.
Â
The win extended Louisiana's season-opening winning streak and continued the program's best start since 2015. The Ragin' Cajuns played their first contest away from Lamson Park in the 2019 season.
Â
LEADING THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
Seven different starters posted at least one RBI with Bailey Curry leading the way with a career-high six RBI. Curry hit one of Louisiana's three home runs in the contest, a three-run shot in the fourth inning which moved the lead into double figures at 11-0.
Â
Alissa Dalton, Kara Gremillion and Raina O'Neal each tallied three RBI. Sarah Hudek posted multiple extra base hits by doubling twice in the fifth inning.
Â
Keeli Milligan tied the school's single-game record with four stolen bases and increased her season total to 19 in as many attempts.
Â
Carrie Boswell (3-0, 0.55 ERA) received the start in the circle and worked four scoreless innings holding the Golden Flashes to just two hits.
Â
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
- Milligan drew a leadoff walk to start the game, stole second and third and scored on a throwing error to provide Louisiana with an early lead.
- Boswell induced a 4-6-3 double play to bring an end to Kent State's first at bat and prevent an answer.
- Curry opened the scoring in the third inning with a two-run single down the left field line which pushed the lead to 4-0. That was the start of back-to-back plate appearances in which she generated five RBI, as the next time at the dish she launched the three-run home run in the fourth inning.
No. 10 Louisiana closes out Day 1 of the Baylor Invitational at Getterman Stadium in Waco facing 21st-ranked Baylor at approximately 5:30 p.m.
