Louisiana in pack of eight teams separated by eight shots

MOBILE, Ala. – Jack Tolson celebrated his 21st birthday with a pair of 1-under-par 71's and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team found itself in an eight-team logjam after the first day of the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate on Monday at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course.
 
The final round on the par-72, 7,212-yard course is set for an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday. Louisiana will be paired with Texas State, Nicholls State and Illinois State in the final round. Live results will be available at RaginCajuns.com.
 
Tolson overcame a pair of bogeys in his first six holes to start the day, collecting birdies on No. 14 and 15 on the back nine before recording an eagle on the par-5, 540-yard No. 4.
 
The Lafayatte native opened the second round with birdies at No. 8 and 11 before consecutive bogeys at 17 and 18 closed out a 1-over 37 on the back nine. Tolson, who finished tied for 17th after 36 holes, was able to rebound as he posted a birdie at No. 4 before wrapping up his day with pars at both No. 5 and 6.
 
Micah Goulas opened the day with a 2-under 70 before his 1-over 73 closed out the day at 1-under 143. Charlie Flynn (73-74) and Peter Hinnant (74-73) each finished at 3-over 147 with Bjorn Gudjonsson posting back-to-back 75's to finish at 6-over 150.
 
Louisiana, which posted a two-round score of 3-over-par 579 to finish in a seventh-place tie after 36 holes, opened the day with an even-par 288 before shooting a 291 in the second round.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns finished the day tied with Illinois State, Richmond and Oral Roberts while finishing six strokes behind Texas State (573), five behind Nicholls (574) while finishing ahead of Jacksonville State (580) and Kennesaw State (581).
 
Florida State, ranked No. 39 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, overcame a four-stroke deficit after the first round to fire a 17-under 271 to take the lead at 553. First-round leader Louisville, ranked No. 27, finished five shots back at 558 with Western Kentucky (563) and South Alabama (566) and Texas State rounding out the top five.
 
Individually, FSU's John Pak opened the day with a 2-under 70 before tying a tournament record with a 9-under 63 in the afternoon session to finish at 9-under 133 and post a four-shot lead over Cody Burrows of Oral Roberts and Devin Morley of Louisville.
