Three-time All-Sun Belt performer rewarded after another 300-kills campaign
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) awarded First Team All-Louisiana honors to Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball outside hitter Hali Wisnoskie for the third consecutive season.
Â
It's the second first team selection of the 2019 season for Wisnoskie, who received the same distinction from the Sun Belt Conference in November.
Â
The Columbus, Texas product is the first three-time All-Louisiana honoree for the Ragin' Cajuns since Lindsay Brown from 2008-10. She is just the fifth in program history to receive three All-Louisiana awards, joining Brown, Annette Carney, Tina Giron and Louisiana Athletics Hall of Famer Nia Kiggundu.
Â
Wisnoskie was Louisiana's lone representative on the 2019 All-Louisiana Volleyball team. The school was one of nine across the state to place an individual on the team.
Â
Competing in, and starting, all of Louisiana's 30 matches, Wisnoskie scored 300-plus kills for a third consecutive season, finishing with a career-best 359 kills. She became only the second player in the 44-year history of the program - joining Kiggundu - to notch three consecutive 300-kill seasons.
Â
Wisnoskie single-handedly led the charge in Louisiana's turnaround in Sun Belt play, as she averaged 4.68 kills per set on a .300 hitting percentage during the 9-1 regular-season ending run which catapulted the Ragin' Cajuns to a runner-up finish in the SBC West. During the stretch, she had double digits in kills every match and posted a .250 or higher hitting percentage in eight of the 10 contests, hitting .300-plus four times
Â
She wound up with an astounding 235 kills in Sun Belt play, and ranked Top 5 in conference play averaging 3.85 kills per set – shattering her previous career-high SBC average of 2.79 set in 2017.
Â
The junior outside hitter closed the season with 11 consecutive matches of double figures in kills, surpassing 20 kills twice in November. The highlight was a career-high 26 kills off only 47 swings on Nov. 16 at Little Rock which pushed her career total past 1,000 kills.
Â
Hannah Brister (Northwestern State) was named Player of the Year, Marissa Sandoval (Centenary) was chosen Libero of the Year, Karli Rose (Louisiana State) was voted the Freshman of the Year and Newcomer of the Year accolades went to Ema Causevic (Xavier). Northwestern State head coach Sean Kiracofe received Coach of the Year accolades.
