Sun Belt Tournament Play Starts Thursday for Louisiana Volleyball

All matches available on ESPN+; tournament winner receives automatic bid to NCAA Tournament
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team, winners of nine of its past 10 matches, is set to begin play in the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 21 at Strahan Arena in San Marcos, Texas.
Louisiana (14-15, 10-6 Sun Belt), the No. 5 seed in the event, will face No. 8 seed Arkansas State (16-12, 7-9 Sun Belt) at 5 p.m. in a first round contest. The winner of the match advances to meet No. 4 seed Troy (21-8, 10-6 Sun Belt) in a quarterfinal contest on Friday, Nov. 22 at 5 p.m.
The Ragin' Cajuns and Red Wolves rematch occurs less than one week from a four-set win by Louisiana on Friday, Nov. 15 in Jonesboro which completed the season series sweep.
The SBC Tournament, which utilizes a single-elimination format, runs through Sunday, Nov. 24 in San Marcos. Every match will be broadcast live via ESPN+, and live stats will also be available. Louisiana's half of the bracket, headed by No. 1 seed Texas State, is slotted for the 2:30 p.m. semifinal contest on Saturday. The championship match is slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The eight teams traveling to San Marcos are competing for the Sun Belt's automatic berth into the 2019 NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament which begins with the first and second rounds Dec. 5-7.
The Ragin' Cajuns return to the league's postseason for the first time since 2017. It's the 13th overall appearance in program history, the sixth under the guidance of head coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot.
Louisiana enters the SBC Tournament as the hottest team following a remarkable turnaround following a 1-5 start to conference play. Improved offensive efficiency, hitting .224 since Oct. 18, and an even more fortified defense, limiting league foes to a .135 percentage during the timeframe, have been the catalysts for Louisiana's newfound fortune.
Individually, Hali Wisnoskie experienced a revival of her All-Sun Belt caliber play in leading the surge to the finish line, totaling 173 kills at an average of 4.68 kills per set on a .300 hitting percentage since Oct. 18.
