LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball head coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot has announced the signing of two student-athletes who have inked their National Letters of Intent to join the program starting in the 2020 season.
Â
Signing with the Ragin' Cajuns is middle blocker/setter Taylor Gates (Kansas City, Mo./Liberty North HS) and setter Abby Lynn (Labadie, Mo./St. Francis Borgia HS).
Â
Gates is expected to join the program in January as an early enrollee, while Lynn will arrive in the fall of 2020.
Â
A four-year varsity performer at Liberty (Mo.) North High School, Gates completed her prep career as the school's record holder for kills in a match (21), season (328) and career (960). She was a four-time all-district and all-conference selection, and was an AVCA All-Region choice as a senior.
                             Â
The final career numbers for Gates included 960 kills, 140 total blocks, 675 digs, 92 aces and a .238 hitting percentage. She produced single-season bests of 328 kills and 215 digs this fall.
Â
On the club circuit, Gates competed with Club North Volleyball as a setter and pin-player. Her squad won 2015 Northern Lights American Division Title and advanced to the Girls Junior National Championships 2015, 2017 and 2019.
Â
Lynn began playing varsity at St. Francis Borgia in Washington, Mo., as a sophomore, totaling 618 assists, 188 digs, 72 kills, 32 blocks and 24 aces. She eclipsed 100 kills, 200 digs and 600 assists in each of her final two seasons.
Â
A three-time, first-team all-district choice and multiple honoree for all-conference awards, Lynn's senior season was highlighted by a Class 3A state championship, in which she delivered 38 assists in leading Borgia to a win over Logan-Rogersville.
Â
On the club circuit, Lynn played for St.-Louis based Rockwood Thunder the past nine years, highlighted by tournament MVP honors in the 17's Open of the President's Day Classic. She was a member of PrepVolleyball's Top 79 Sophomore List.
