@RaginCajunsVB clipped by two points in each of the final three sets of the five-set thriller
LAFAYETTE – Appalachian State staged comebacks in each of the final three sets to rally for a 3-2 (17-25, 13-25, 30-28, 25-23, 16-14) win and spoiled the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team's return to Earl K. Long Gym.
The Ragin' Cajuns (5-11, 1-2 Sun Belt) came out the gates blazing on offense, scoring at least 16 kills in each of the first two sets while posting a .403 hitting percentage to lay claim to a 2-0 match lead.
App State (7-9, 3-0 Sun Belt) took advantage of six Louisiana attack errors in the back half of the third set to find new life and win in extra points. A resurgence on offense (19 kills) carried the Mountaineers in a back-and-forth fourth set and into the winner-take-all scenario.
Five quick kills had Louisiana in control early in the fifth set at 8-5, then later maintained its edge at 9-7 following a Celeste Darling kill. The Mountaineers reeled off four straight points to flip the momentum and that led to a third consecutive two-point win for the visitors.
