Women’s Tennis Completes Day One and Two of ITA Southern Regional

BATON ROUGE, La. – Louisiana Women's Tennis wrapped up play Thursday and Friday at the ITA Southern Regional in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The two athletes competing in the event are Floriane Picaut and Mariona Perez Noguera.
On Friday, Picaut started her singles run competing in the main draw of the Southern Regional. Unfortunately, she fell in the opening round to Georgia Axon (Auburn), 6-1, 6-4.
Perez Noguera, who opened with two singles victories on Thursday, sealed a spot in the main draw before losing to the No. 2 overall seed Emma Antonaki (Miss. State), 6-2, 6-1.
The two will still compete in the doubles qualifying draw tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
Thursday's Summary
Perez Noguera had a very nice outing on Thursday going 2-0 and earning a comeback win in the second round of the singles qualifying draw beating Castillo (NSU), 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
"I was proud of Mariona for fighting to come back," head coach Stephanie Vallejos explained. "She struggled in her first set but played a tight second set and handled the pressure well. When it came down to the end, she stepped up and played big tennis."
Perez Noguera and Picaut are doubles partners in the qualifying draw and they picked up a big win in round one of Thursday's action beating conference foes Garbino/Cueto (ULM), 8-4.
"As a pair Mariona and Flo played good doubles," Vallejos said. "It was a conference opponent so it was an important win for us to take."
