Louisiana Advances in Week 2 Edition of National Softball Polls

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball moved up in both the USA Today/NFCA and ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 poll for the second consecutive week.

Louisiana (7-2) advanced to No. 15 in the NFCA poll, gaining one spot from the No. 16 listing last week.

The Ragin' Cajuns jumped two spots in the ESPN/USA Softball poll, rising to No. 17 in the Week 2 edition of the listing.

The movement continues the Ragin' Cajuns rise from the preseason rankings of No. 22 in the NFCA poll and No. 24 in the ESPN/USA Softball poll.

Gerry Glasco's squad picked up a pair of wins over teams in the national polls last week, defeating RV Oregon State and No. 2 Florida at Lamson Park. The highlight was a walk-off win over the second-ranked Gators on Sunday in which pitcher Summer Ellyson turned in an 11-inning effort in the circle.

No. 15/17 Louisiana hosts the 32nd Annual Louisiana Classics tournament Thursday-Sunday, Feb. 22-25 at Lamson Park. The event wraps up a season-opening homestand which began back on Feb. 8 with the Mardi Gras Classic.

The Ragin' Cajuns open play in the Louisiana Classics on Thursday at 4 p.m. against in-state foe Southeastern Louisiana. A complete schedule of games can be found at RaginCajuns.com/SoftballLouisianaClassics.
