LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Women's Basketball (2-6) hits the road for a midweek matchup in Oxford, Miss., when the Ragin' Cajuns visit the Ole Miss Rebels (4-6) for an 11 a.m. tip at The Pavilion at Ole Miss.
Â
HOW TO WATCH/LISTEN/FOLLOW: On television, the game will be covered and streamed on the SEC Network Plus with Richard Cross (pxp) and Lindsay Roy (analyst) handling the call. Fans can watch the game on the WATCHESPN App or by going to watchespn.com. Steve Peloquin will handle the radio call, with the game being broadcast on ESPN1420. Live stats will be provided by the Ole Miss Athletic department and a link to the live stats can be found on the schedule page or by clicking here.
PREVIEWING THE GAME: The last time that Louisiana and Ole Miss faced off, the Ragin' Cajuns got their first win against the Rebels in program history taking the game in Oxford, 82-78. All-time Ole Miss leads the series 4-1 and this will be the sixth meeting between the two programs, but Louisiana head coach Garry Brodhead has never lost in Oxford, with the Ragin' Cajuns grabbing the win in their previous visit to The Pavilion at Ole Miss.
REVIEWING THE PREVIOUS GAME: In what was Louisiana's first game at home in roughly two weeks, Louisiana fell to the Sam Houston State Bearkats, 68-62, on Dec. 8 at the CAJUNDOME. Louisiana put on a late charge, going on a 14-2 run from the end of the third quarter into the fourth, cutting deeply into Sam Houston State's lead as the game drew to an end. But down the stretch the Bearkats pulled away by making their free throws and ending Louisiana's chances at a late game comeback.
In the game freshman guard Brandi Williams lead the team in scoring, finishing with 14 points on 4-for-10 shooting. Williams came on late, scoring nine of her 14 points in the fourth quarter to help lead Louisiana's late charge.
Redshirt-freshman forward Kristen Daniels and junior forward Kendall Bess made their Louisiana debuts coming off the bench to provide the Ragin' Cajuns with some energy. Daniels made an immediate impact, scoring seven points and grabbing five rebounds in only 16 minutes of action.
GOODWIN HITS HER STRIDE: Over the past two out of three games, Louisiana sophomore guard Skyler Goodwin has begun to find her stride, scoring at least 10 points in those games. She dropped 13 points at UT Rio Grande Valley on Dec. 1 and 13 points in Louisiana's last game vs. Sam Houston State (Dec. 8).
DOUCET RANKS NATIONALLY: Doucet sits in the Top-15 nationally in three different categories. She is sixth in double-doubles and sits only one double-double behind the national-high of seven double-doubles. On the glass, Doucet sits ninth in the country in defensive rebounds per game (9.0) and 13th in the nation in rebounds per game (12.4).
Her 22 rebounds performance against McNeese State (Nov. 11) still sits as the second-best performance in the country so far this season.
FRESHMEN HAVE BEEN BUSY: So far this season, Louisiana's four freshmen have played key parts on the court. Williams is second on the team in points per game, averaging 11.4 ppg., and forward Jazmyn Womack is fifth on the team in rebounds per game averaging 3.4 rpg.Â
When considering the team totals, Louisiana's freshmen have averaged 30.6 points per game total, which is roughly half of the 66.0 points per game that the Ragin' Cajuns are averaging as a team and the four freshmen are shooting .376 percent playing a key part in Louisiana's team total of .407 shooting percentage.
CALLING IN REINFORCEMENTS: During Louisiana's game against Sam Houston State (Dec. 8) both Daniels and Bess made their debuts in a Louisiana uniform. Coming off the bench Daniels scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds in just 16 minutes of action, while Bess logged 11 minutes off the bench.
WHAT THE REBELS BRING: Ole Miss is coming off of a 74-51 win over Savannah State on Dec. 8. That win snapped a five-game losing streak that the Rebels had been on. So far this season the Rebels have had a tough schedule, playing the UConn Huskies (L, 50-90), who at the time were ranked No. 2 in the nation, Purdue (L, 59-70) and St. John's (L, 59-64) within a three-day period in a tournament at the St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands.
Leading the way in terms of scoring for the Rebels is Crystal Allen who has started and played in all 10 games so far, averaging 17.6 points per game and 34.2 minutes per game, both of which are team highs. Jhileiya Dunlap leads the team on the glass, averaging 5.7 rebounds per game, while Shandricka Sessom is second on the team in rebounds, averaging 5.6 rebounds per game and she is second on the team in scoring averaging 8.6 points per game. Mimi Reid, who has played in and started eight games so far, is leading the team in assists, recording 39 assists with an average of 4.9 assists per game.
Allen doubles as one of the better shooters on the team, leading the team in field goal attempts (149) and three-point field goal attempts (60). She is second on the team in field goal percentage (.396) and first on the team in three-point field goal percentage (.433).
