LAFAYETTE – After winning its first game of the season, Louisiana Women's Basketball (1-1, 0-0 SBC) returns to the CAJUNDOME for the 5th Annual Education Game, taking on the Dillard Bleu Devils (3-0) for an 11 a.m. tip-off that will be broadcast on Cox Sports TV.
Â
HOW TO WATCH/LISTEN/FOLLOW: The game will be broadcast on CST, with Dan McDonald on play-by-play and Lawana Stokes handling the analysis. On the radio ESPN1420 will broadcast the game with Steve Peloquin calling the game. Live stats will be available for the game, provided by RaginCajuns.com.
As a team, Louisiana shot 79 percent from the free throw line, hitting their shots from the line to ice the game. Helped by Doucet's 22 boards, the Ragin' Cajuns held a +19-rebounding margin in the game, along with putting in 20 second chance points. Freshman Brandi Williams added nine points and had nine rebounds of her own, just missing her first career double-double.
30-YEAR RECORD FALLS: Doucet's 22 rebounds, broke a 30-year-old school record for rebounds in a single game. The record was held by Teena Cooper, who grabbed 21 rebounds on Jan. 14, 1988 at Nicholls State. So far this season, Doucet's 22 rebounds are tied for the most in country and she is one of two women, the other being Kristine Anigwe of California who completed the feat on Sunday, Nov. 11.
IMPRESSIVE WILLIAMS: Over the first two games of the season, Williams has been a part of the starting five and has already played 66 minutes, averaging 33.0 minutes per game over the first week of the season. Those 33 minutes ranks her 12th in the conference, while the 12.5 points per game the Louisiana freshman has averaged puts her 17th in the conference.
WHAT THE BLEU DEVILS BRING: Dillard enters the game sitting at 3-0 having won its last game, 79-73, against Wiley College. Over its first three games, Dillard has been outscoring its opponents 271-195, and they hung 105 points on Jarvis Christian (Texas) in the opening game of the season.
Last season Dillard, who won last season's game with Louisiana, won the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, going 23-6 (9-3 GCAC), and they reached the NAIA National Championship Tournament, falling in the first round. The Bleu Devils entered the season, just outside the NAIA Division I Preseason Top-25, receiving the most votes by any team left out of the preseason poll.
Four Bleu Devils are averaging in double figures, with Shaelynn Moore averaging 17.3 points per game, Kia Smith 14.0 ppg., Adriiana Jackson 12.7 ppg., and Alyssa Washington 11.0 ppg. Asia Partlow leads the Bleu Devils in rebounding, with 7.0 rebounds per game and Washington is right behind her sitting at 6.0 rpg.
