OXFORD, Miss. – Junior Clara Mantaux collected a win in the Round of 32 in the Division II singles bracket to pace Louisiana Women's Tennis at the ITA Southern Regionals hosted by Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi.
MANTAUX LEADS THE CAJUNS: Mantaux began the day taking on Cristina Moll from Jacksonville University in the Round of 32 in the Division II singles bracket. Mantaux handled her business against Moll, winning the match in straight sets 7-5, 6-0 to move into the Round of 16.
In the Round of 16 Mantaux faced off with Tulane's Adelaide Lavery, who had a bye in the Round of 32, coming into her match against Mantaux fresh. It was a three-set battle from the get-go and Mantaux was determined to move on in the tournament, but she would eventually end up on the short end of the match, falling 6-7, 7-5, 5-7 to Lavery.
The first was pushed to a tiebreaker where Lavery held off Mantaux to win 7-6, but Mantaux stormed back in the second set, 7-5, to force a deciding third set. Although Lavery won that final set and the match, Mantaux put up a fight in the final set, barely missing another tiebreaker by one point.
