Teams battled back-and-forth the entire night, no lead larger than four points
LITTLE ROCK – Little Rock managed to slip by the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team for a 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-21) win on Saturday at the Jack Stephens Center.
The Ragin' Cajuns (10-12, 2-6 Sun Belt) and Trojans (13-8, 5-3 Sun Belt) battled through 38 ties and 13 lead changes throughout the night. It was a .270-.177 advantage in hitting percentage which proved to be the difference in the hosts' favor.
Neither team led by more than three points the entire match until the Trojans secured match point.
Saturday's match marked the first of a Sun Belt Conference home-and-home between the two West Division foes. Little Rock returns the visit during the final weekend of regular season play (Nov. 9).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Trojans' 19-11 edge in kills lifted them to the victory in the opening set. A pair of Carol Barbosa kills snapped an 18-all tie and put Little Rock in the lead for good.
Louisiana held the advantage in kills in the second frame (16-15), but the Trojans .355 percentage made the difference.
Three straight Hanna Rovira kills gave the Ragin' Cajuns a 13-12 in the third set, then back-and-forth play continued until Dree'Ana Abram and Hali Wisnoskie scored kills for a 20-18 lead. Little Rock would use a five-point run to reclaim the lead and close out the contest.
