Cajuns, LSU Meet in Regional Final Sunday at 10:37pm

BATON ROUGE – 14th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball and No. 18 LSU meet in the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional Championship with first pitch set for 10:37 p.m. on Sunday evening at Tiger Park on the LSU campus.

The Ragin' Cajuns (47-6) seek to secure a sixth consecutive trip to the NCAA Super Regional round. Louisiana will accomplish the task, and advance to the NCAA Tallahassee Super Regional (Florida State), with a win on Sunday evening.

The Tigers (43-19) need two wins to advance out of the Baton Rouge Regional. LSU would force the "if necessary" game, to be played on Monday at a time to be determined, with a win.

The championship game, originally scheduled for 4 p.m., was delayed by a pair of delays in Sunday's elimination game between LSU and McNeese that totaled six-plus hours.

Louisiana advanced to Sunday's championship game by battling back to defeat LSU 4-2 in Saturday's winner's bracket final. LSU secured its spot in the championship by topping McNeese 10-1 (6 inn.) in the weather-delayed elimination game that began earlier Sunday afternoon.

The Ragin' Cajuns have won the last six NCAA Tournament meetings with the Tigers. Louisiana holds a 7-4 edge over LSU in the postseason event.

It's the fifth time the two programs meet in the championship round of an NCAA Regional in Baton Rouge (2001, 2006, 2008, 2013) and the first since Louisiana defeated LSU in the 2013 Baton Rouge Regional Championship to advance to the NCAA Ann Arbor Super Regional.

The Ragin' Cajuns-Tigers matchup can be heard on SportsRadio ESPN 1420-AM in the Acadiana Region and the RadioPup app worldwide. Live video will be provided by an ESPN3 broadcast that features play-by-play from Lyn Rollins and analysis from Yvette Girouard.
