Cajuns to Face Texas State For Championship Game Spot

Top two seeds in Sun Belt Tournament square off at 11 a.m. on Friday in Troy
TROY, Ala. – No. 14-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball will meet Texas State at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 12 in the winner's bracket final of the 2017 Sun Belt Conference Softball Tournament at the Troy Softball Complex on the campus of Troy University.

The winner of the Ragin' Cajuns-Bobcats matchup advances to Saturday's 1 p.m., championship game. The loser will have to return to the field on Friday and play an elimination game at 5 p.m.

No. 14 Louisiana (43-6) topped South Alabama 6-0 behind a career-high 13 strikeouts from Alex Stewart while Texas State (40-13) broke a sixth-inning tie with a three-run homer from Sara Rupp to defeat Georgia State 5-2 on Thursday and set up the matchup.

Louisiana, the defending tournament champion, seeks an appearance in the SBC Tournament title game for the fourth straight season and 16th time overall in the 18-year history of the event.

The game will be broadcast on SportsRadio ESPN 1420-AM in the Acadiana region and the RadioPup app worldwide with Steve Peloquin calling the action. Live video will be provided by an ESPN3 broadcast that features play-by-play from Matt Stewart and analysis from three-time Florida Gators All-American Francesca Enea.

This is the second straight season that Louisiana and Texas State square off in the winner's bracket final at the Sun Belt Tournament. The Ragin' Cajuns won 9-7 at Jaguar Field in Mobile, Ala., last season to move to the championship game where they defeated the Bobcats 12-0 (5 inn.) in a rematch.

The contests in Mobile last season were the first SBC Tournament matchups between the two programs.

The Ragin' Cajuns won the season series with Texas State, claiming 2-of-3 games played over Easter Weekend in San Marcos, Texas (April 14-15). DJ Sanders produced three home runs in the Good Friday doubleheader, highlighted by two grand slams in the nightcap, as Louisiana swept the Bobcats 8-1, 12-4 (6 inn.). Texas State used a bases-loaded infield single from Jaelyn Young to snap a tie in the eighth inning and win the finale 2-1.
