LAREDO, Texas -  The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team is set to tee off Friday at the prestigious Border Olympics hosted by Houston at the par-72, 7,125-yard Laredo Country Club.

Play gets underway at 7:30 a.m. on Friday with a shotgun start as teams will play 36 holes on the first day. The third and final round is slated for Saturday morning at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.

"It's nice to be down in Laredo, Texas at one of the oldest and most historic collegiate golf events," head coach Theo Sliman said. "The course is in great shape and the weather forecast calls for wind and rain, which we like. Tough weather and conditions will call for mental strength and grit. I am anxious to see the five compete and expect us to fight for 54 holes."

The Cougars are joined by Bowling Green, Campbell, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Little Rock, Louisiana, McNeese, Nebraska, New Mexico State, Oral Roberts, Rice, Sacramento State, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, ULM, UTEP and UTSA in the 19-team field.

Louisiana is coming off of a fifth place finish a week ago at the 32nd annual Louisiana Classics led by senior Fernado Cruz Valle. Cruz Valle has tallied back-to-back third place finishes dropping his scoring average to 72.94 through 18 rounds.

Aron Juliusson, Thomas Strandemo, Ragnar Gardarsson and Triston Elston round out the lineup for the Cajuns. Juliusson has posted four top 25 performances this season including two in the top 10, while Gardarsson had success at the event a year ago carding a career-low score of 1-under (143).

The Cajuns finished in a tie for fourth a year ago at the rain-shortened Border Olympics with a two-round score of seven-under (569). Former Ragin' Cajuns golfer Haraldur Magnus claimed the individual title with a score of 10-under (134).

Louisiana is paired with ULM, Rice and UTSA for the first two rounds. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
