Cajuns To Open Outdoor Season On Saturday At Cowboy Relays

LAFAYETTE – Coming off a third-place finish last month at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team opens its 2017 outdoor schedule on Saturday when it heads west to compete in the Cowboy Relays at the McNeese Track Complex.

Events will begin at 9 a.m. with the men's hammer throw and women's javelin before running events start at noon with the 4x200-meter relays. Live results of the event can be followed online at RaginCajuns.com.

Louisiana and host McNeese State will be a part of an 18-team field that includes Alcorn State, Dillard, Grambling, Louisiana College, Nicholls State, Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern, Southwest Christian, Texas College, Texas Southern, ULM, Wiley College and Xavier (N.O.).

Defending Sun Belt Conference champion Bartul Basic will make his debut in the javelin for Louisiana with defending decathlon champion Franz Beyer scheduled to compete in five events (110-meter hurdles, high jump, discus, shot put, long jump).

Kyle Baudoin (men's pole vault) and Meredith Driskell (women's pole vault) have each posted the top marks among entrants in the meet with Taylor Walker posting the second-best mark in the women's triple jump.

School-record holders Lindsay Harmon (women's high jump) and Tamela Young (women's shot put) will each make their outdoor debuts for the Ragin' Cajuns with Bryce Robinson (men's 3,000-meter run), Hailey Hesterman (women's 1,500-meter run), Jacob Chicola (men's 1,500-meter run) and Dylan Heck (men's 1,500-meter run) all slated to compete.
