Cajuns look to build off 4-1 win at Jackson State in season opener
MOBILE, Ala. – Coming off a victory in its season-opener two weeks ago, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team returns to action when it faces South Alabama on Sunday at the Mobile Tennis Center.
First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. The match for Louisiana (1-0), the first of five straight on the road, is its first since a 4-1 win at Jackson State on Jan. 22. The Ragin' Cajuns scheduled home match on Feb. 3 against Southeastern Louisiana was postponed as several members of the SLU squad were battling the flu.
Kelly Drew, Abby Johnson and Carla Ortega each picked up wins in the bottom half of the singles lineup for Louisiana. The Ragin' Cajuns claimed the doubles point in their opener as Drew and Lucile Delebarre earned a win at No. 2 before Johnson and Alexandra Way clinched the point for Louisiana with a 6-3 win at the No. 1 spot.
South Alabama (1-1) opened its season with a 4-0 loss to No. 22-ranked Texas A&M at the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Jan. 28 before picking up a 6-1 win over Xavier (N.O.) on Saturday.
Louisiana will close out its road trip with matches at Northwestern State (Feb. 9), Southern Miss (Feb. 10) and No. 24-ranked Mississippi State (Feb. 11) before returning home to face McNeese State on Feb. 21.
