UTA Storms Past Ragin' Cajuns In SBC Contest, 108-71

Washington posts 16th double-double in losing effort
ARLINGTON, Texas – Kevin Hervey and Jalen Jones each scored a game-high 21 points and UT Arlington shot nearly 66 percent from the floor in the second half to defeat the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, 108-71, in a Sun Belt Conference men's basketball game on Monday at College Park Center.
Kaleon Wilson added 14 points off the bench while Erick Neal dished out 13 assists as UTA (15-5, 5-2 SBC) finished 40-for-70 (57.1 percent) for the game while sinking 13 3-pointers.
UTA took advantage of poor shooting by Louisiana (13-7, 3-4 SBC) early in the first half as the Mavs built a 17-6 lead on a bucket by Wilson with 13:06 remaining in the first half. Louisiana closed to within 26-25 when Johnathan Stove sank a 3-pointer with 4:46 left in the half, but a pair of buckets by Hervey fueled a 14-6 run down the stretch to give UTA a 40-31 lead at the break.
The Mavs, who went 25-for-38 (65.8 percent) from the floor in the second in outscoring Louisiana, 68-40, scored 13 straight points after a bucket by Frank Bartley to open the second half. Jones, who finished 7-for-11 from the floor and 5-for-7 from behind the 3-point line, hit three 3-pointers during the run for UTA before Jorge Bilbao capped the run with a layup for a 53-33 lead at the 16:20 mark.
Bryce Washington scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Louisiana with P.J. Hardy coming off the bench to scored 14. Stove added 12 points for the Ragin' Cajuns while Bartley chipped in with 10.
Louisiana will return to action on Saturday when it faces Little Rock in a 7:15 p.m. contest at the Cajundome.
