Cajuns, Cowboys to renew gridiron rivalry on Saturday

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns football team will renew one of its oldest rivalries in school history on Saturday when it entertains McNeese State at Cajun Field.
 
Kickoff for the game, which is presented by JD Bank, is slated for 6 p.m., and will televised in both Lafayette (KLAF-TV) and Lake Charles (KPLC-TV) along with streaming coverage on ESPN3. Tickets for the game are available at the Cajundome Box Office and RaginCajuns.com.
 
Single-game and season tickets are currently on sale at the Cajundome Box Office (337-265-2357) and on-line at RaginCajuns.com.
 
Fans can take advantage of an "Early Bird" discount by purchasing their tickets prior to gameday. Reserved tickets purchased prior to midnight before each home game are $26 with general admission tickets $21. Tickets purchased on game day are $31 (Reserved) and $26 (General Admission).
 
The game against McNeese State (1-0), currently ranked No. 11 in the Stats FCS Poll, will be the 38th meeting between the schools and making it the seventh-oldest rivalry in Ragin' Cajuns history. The schools met annually on the gridiron from 1951-86 when both were members of the now defunct Gulf States Conference (1951-70) and the Southland Conference (1971-81).

• Anthony Jennings' fourth-quarter TD pass to Keenan Barnes was his 13th career TD pass and his first since his sophomore season at LSU when threw a 75-yard TD strike to John Diarse against Notre Dame in the 2014 Music City Bowl.
• The second-quarter sack of Broncos QB Brett Rypien by Tre'maine Lightfoot and Kevon Perry was the first of their respective careers.
• Matt Barnes' 7-yard reception in the second quarter was the second catch of his career and his first since the 2014 opener against Southern.
• Redshirt freshmen Ja'Marcus Bradley (3 receptions, 50 yards), Michael Jacquet (2-17) and Jordan Wright (1-4) each recorded the first pass receptions of their career.
 
KEEPING IT IN THE BAYOU STATE
• Louisiana will avoid using their "Frequent Flyer" miles for much of the 2016 as the Ragin' Cajuns will play eight regular-season games within the state borders.
• The Ragin' Cajuns will play six games at Cajun Field and will travel to face Tulane and ULM.
• Louisiana will not leave the state during the month of September as it will play Boise State (Sept. 3), McNeese State (Sept. 10) and South Alabama (Sept. 17) at home before traveling for the first time in 2016 to face Tulane (Sept. 24) at Yulman Stadium.
• Louisiana's first trip out of state will be on Oct. 1 when it visits New Mexico State in a Sun Belt Conference game.
 
HOMEGROWN CAJUNS
• As with most schools, Louisiana has placed a heavy emphasis on recruiting players within its state borders as 56 players on the roster, including 19 from the nine-parish Acadiana region, from the state of Louisiana.
 
THE CAJUNS ALSO HAVE THE INTERNATIONAL FLAIR
• Three members of the Ragin' Cajuns squad are international players: punter Steven Coutts (Australia), reserve lineman Christian Cederquist (Denmark) and scout team lineman Angus Sinclair (Scotland), who finished second overall in the decathlon at the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
