Ragin' Cajuns and Bobcats Meet for Tournament Title

MOBILE, Ala. – No. 9-ranked Ragin' Cajuns Softball will attempt to claim the program's 13th Sun Belt Tournament championship when they face Texas State at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the championship game of the 2016 event at Jaguar Field on the University of South Alabama campus.

The winner of the Cajuns-Bobcats contest will receive the Sun Belt Conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Louisiana (42-7) advanced to Saturday's championship game with a 9-7 win over Texas State (39-19) in Friday's winner's bracket final. The Bobcats escaped elimination Friday evening with a 9-1 win over Georgia State.

The game will be broadcast on SportsRadio ESPN 1420-AM in the Lafayette area with Steve Peloquin and Bobby Neveaux on the call. It will also be televised via internet stream on WatchESPN.com with links available at championship central on SunBeltSports.org.

The ninth-ranked Ragin' Cajuns, who picked up the program's 14th regular season SBC championship in the league's 16th season of regular season play, are appearing in the SBC Tournament championship game for the ninth straight season and 15th time in the 17-year history of the event.

This is Texas State's first appearance in the title game. It ends a two-year run of matchups between Louisiana and South Alabama for the title that took place in 2014 and 2015.

The Ragin' Cajuns claimed the championship the last time the tournament was held in Mobile defeating Troy 8-0 on May 15, 2010.
